While it's not my favorite, I recently read "The Lightning Stenography Device" and one of the characters has his persona played by a snake in the final part of the book. It's a really fun read and it was very fitting for the character's sinuous and devilish nature.

And if comics/graphic novels count, I'd go with SV from Secretary. His struggles and, for better or worse, character growth, was done very well. Also, I had pet degus when I was younger and I thought that it was cool that this story had one as a main character.

>Libico Maraja

Seems like he mainly did art for children's books. His art is very nice.

If we're talking actual, published, bookstore literature, then there isn't much I've read.

The Belgariad/Mallorean are probably my favorite stories of all time.

Unfortunately, despite transforming being a constant tool the characters use, the only true animal character spends most of the time she has the spotlight in human form.

I like her daughter more anyway.

Mrs Frisby and the Rats of NIMH

It was of course made into a movie called "The Secret of NIMH." Good movie but the book was better, naturally

 No.91223

My favorite is "the blood jaguar" and then "light on shattered water"

Character: Reynard the Fox from medival European fairytales. He's basically a troll. In one story, the lion king sends him a rabbit messenger to tell him to stop his bs. Reynard reacts by eating him and sending his head back to the king. So the king puts him on trial, where he gets free by hitting on the queen.

But overall literature I guess it's the second Felidae book. It's about Francis once again solving a murder case around wild cats. The whole book resolves around death and in the end, unrelated to the case, Francis gets shot and has a weird near-death experience.

I wish they turned all books into cartoons.

The character growth that's either murdering his completely underpowered friend or getting killed by a weakness that he wouldn't have without that character growth?

What a guy lol

Still waiting for Fig to have some preachy, unsatisfying resolve. I already see her killed by her pimp BF and we gotta learn something from it or whatever.

Honestly, I just hope Fig comes out alive. I'm too emotionally invested in her. :(

I made an attempt.

As for Fig, I have no idea how things will turn out for her, kind of like the other stories. The only ending I could kind of guess was Solar System's ending. Still, I'm thinking we might actually get a happny, not bittersweet ending this time.

Renard/Reynard/Renart has been translated countless times, and there are a lot of stories about him. There was consideration for a Disney Renard animated film at one point, which got muddled up with the ideas for one about Chanticleer thew rooster, eventually resulting in "Robin Hood."

I second the White Rabbit. I've always preferred John Tenniel's drawing. Here's a nifty reproduction inlaid in the peghead of a banjo. One of my characters plays this instrument (at Disneyland).

There are many versions of Reynard. The one I'm talking about is from 1592 and is named "The story of Reynard" or "Die Geschichte von Reineke Fuchs".

Yes, Fox means Fuchs in German. He's got slut written all over him.

 No.92005

Fox and the hound is fun, pretty different from the disney version though.
