Reposting from the previous thread since it doesn't bump.

I just played Warriors All-Stars today since I remembered there were some kemono characters in it. The game's alright, it's your standard Dynasty Warriors hack-n-slash but there are, in fact, a lot of furries everywhere, which is neat. Unfortunately their faces look kinda weird and the game's story is kind of mediocre. Anyway I'm really hoping that someone will rip the 3D models and animate a lot of porn with them because I'm weirdly horny for this game's furry characters.

 No.64474

>>64469

It does indeed look cute as fuck however upon release it got mostly average reviews. Most critics said that the game doesn't really improve on the genre and has some gameplay problems carried over from past generations of games, like the camera. Myself, I haven't yet played it since I don't have either an Xbox or Windows 10 and that game alone just didn't convince me to upgrade the OS. I'm actually a little disappointed that it got so little recognition.

>Was Super Lucky's Tale actually good?

Let's see...

The bad

>1 world has is missing a boss (see DLC)

>extremely easy. Enemies are dumb and killed in 1 hit, environmental hazards don't have much presence, lots of free health, etc.

>bosses are BORING (slow, predictable attack, fireball pattern, wave of enemies, flip switches, rinse and repeat 2 more times)

>uninspired, plain enemy design (excepting world-unique enemies), which also clashes with protagonist's and antagonists' much more elaborate looks (see fucking bees and their Spore-inspired eyes)

>same recycled, recolored enemies every world, with the occasional unique enemy

>non-existent replay value (can get all clovers on 1st run of a level), no time-attack or additional modes

>no sidequests, same missions every level (end of level, hidden clover, coins, letters)

>no unlocks, no additional powers or abilities, no locked rooms, no hidden spots, no nothing

Spyro had gems and hidden collectibles, Crash Bandicoot had boxes, hidden Warp Rooms, and relics, Mario 64 had 8 red coins, caps, the bunnies, etc. And that was all the way back in the 90's

The good

>Lucky's model and animations show much improvement and polish from Lucky's Tale. Little fucker's adorable

>occasional gameplay changes (puzzles, ball rolling levels) provide a healthy break from constant platforming, but are few and far between

>foxhole puzzle clovers (or whatever they're called) remind me of Super Wario World trapdoor puzzles, which were fun

>music isn't bad, but doesn't stand out much either

Overall, an unremarkable game. It needs something that makes it something more than just a generic 3D cute mascot platformer.

>>64793 here. Finished Super Lucky's Tale recently. 1st half is so easy a toddler could finish it. 2nd half gets better (better music, longer, more detailed levels, more variety, ups difficulty a somewhat, more enjoyable in general).

It seems they put made a significatn effort for the DLC (more complex, better levels, more beautiful backgrounds/textures, more content and ornaments/decorations). But I don't give a shit, it's a slap across the face that only the DLC has an actually complete world with an actual boss.

I won't lie, I liked it, but it's far from great. I'd rate it 7/10 tops because on top of the stuff I said above, it's missing important shit like:

>ability to rotate camera freely in a 3D platformer of all things

Major pain in the ass when backtracking (e.g. missed something, need more coins)

>good enemy collision detection (will often kill enemies collisioning at the same height)

>consistent physics: ledge-grabbing mechanics (will often climb platform even if you're below it, or when holding the opposite direction), jumping on round platforms (e.g. trees) is suffering, if you only tap jump conveyor belts still affect your speed

>enemies that actually take effort to kill. All have 1 health, die from stomping, and barely attack

Flowers, worms, and birds in particular are pathetic and still appear late into the game unaltered

>ending is short, generic, and lacking; obvious sequel hook

>no in-game acknowledgement for 100% completion (e.g. congratulatory text/dialog, differences in ending)

>no reasons to re-enter any level (e.g. section needs more clovers/powerup/key/unlock from later in the game, secret exits/entrances)

Armello is getting an update in a couple of days, a new set of dice skins along with some probable balance changes. They're slowly progressing towards version 2.0, and they've been releasing free mini-novels about the setting, at long fucking last. They're also revamping the loot drop system so it's not keys and chests and that fucking "coin flip" anymore, it's just chests you can open immediately without a key (and a free chest daily just for turning the game on and picking it up), so no more need to buy shit off the community market because you got 10 chests in a row and no keys. So I am feeling pretty good about all that. The game and all the DLC is also discounted until the end of March so i could finally get the character packs without feeling extremely ripped off. Just kind of ripped off.

For once, I don't hate the devs so much. The recent stuff has been pretty good and the incoming stuff looks better. I just hope there's a few nerfs and buffs in there.

Well, It's not exactly original, but fuck if I didn't spend entirely too much time in that part of the game. Don't know how well that would hold up on its own though. There had better be races and stuff to strive for as you raise your little 'bolds.

The artist has never had any idea what a muzzle looks like. All his usual characters have human anime faces with short muzzles pasted on. I don't think he's ever tried drawing long muzzles before, and he clearly botched it hard for everyone in this VN.

Someone recommended Vivisector on /v/ recently. I'm on chapter 4 (out of 4) and having a pretty good time. I'm playing on the "hard" difficulty (third out of 4 options with cheeky names like "surgery" and "vivisection").

Overall I'd say this game is all style and enough substance.

Yes I really expect you to read *All That Shit* by yours truly.

It features a number of cybernetic animal enemies both anthro and feral, as well as boring humies. No scalies, but there's one technically avian enemy, but it has a rotor instead of wings. Yeah the enemy designs can get pretty wacky.

Furries are decorated with some fancy fur shader, that looks very blurry but imo still adds flavor and looks better than a plain texture would. The environments are a mix of green island outdoors and a sort of grounded rugged industrial look with a touch of brutalism that can be found in games like stalker or metro (vivisector is a ukranian game, go figure). The environments can take on a huge scale, like in E.Y.E. Divine Cybermancy, except they're never slow to traverse. For example one level features a to-scale wind turbine.

As you shoot enemies, flesh tears off of them exposing bones and/or metal underneath. Some enemies wear metal armor that seems to deflect bullets until it falls off, but I'm not quite sure if that actually means they take less damage.

I's an oldschool-ish shooter - no ADS, no limited weapon slots, you move like a quadcopter stuck to the ground. You can't shoot precisely in the game, except with a snipe or rocket launcher. The auto and semi-auto weapons have no recoil mechanic; the game just selects a random point within a circle each shot to decide where your bullet goes. That's why I can't tell if the "shooting at exposed parts" tactic even works because you can't leverage it anyway. Often gun-toting enemies are at such a range that you're forced to just fire in their general direction, wasting 40-90% of your ammo. This is compounded by the fact that enemies spot you instantly and fire with deadly precision. The frame in which you enter an enemy's field of vision is the frame in which you lose health, so you have to act fast or bite the bullet and D-Day towards them until you get close enough. The AI is awful at navigating the environment. This is especially noticeable with the melee enemies.

Boss fights are shit. They're just overpowered and can kill you easily, forcing you to exploit their shit AI which in turn makes killing them easy. One boss killed himself for me with its own rockets' splash damage. Bosses aren't the only annoying enemy. Regulars can be awful too, like the artilery apes, which thankfully disappear early in the game never to be seen again. Unfortunately they dissapear along with all feral enemies to be replaced by anthros. Not that the anthros are bad but I really liked the variety of evenmies in the first chapter, it was like a box of chocolates. Following chapters give you extended sections with just two or even only one enemy type.

Thinking about the gunplay makes me wonder why I even like this game, besides the eye candy of course. Maybe it's the level design. Sometimes it can be hard to figure out the way forward, because doors don't necessarily look like doors as they're all designed in a noisy scifi hard surface style just like everything around them. It keeps the fights from being boring, though. Designers bravely put you and the enemies in a new spacial relationship with each other even at the risk of confusing the hell out of the enemies' AI or annoying the hell out of you.

Jumping out in front of a sheep-man and blasting him apart with the shotgun for the 200th time is just as fun as the first time.

Oh and the plot is supposed to be based on The Island of Doctor Moreau. I haven't read it so I don't know how faithful it is, but it's B-movie tier, nothing to look forward to.

It will be confusing on telling you w/o explaining all of extra mode's story. But demon mom does a ritual that causes all kids in Nekomew's neighborhood to have those nightmares. The reason she does this is to hopefully find her son Nekomew by getting him to piss himself, she has her henchman (who is later revealed to be her daughter) to sniff out for children who pissed during that night, and snatch them away, hoping that one of them is Nekomew. Needless to say, this plan backfires, because (unless you suck at the game) this causes some OTHER children to piss themselves and get snatched instead. And they just lock them away in their dungeon. This explains the string of kidnappings that have been going on.

And why piss? Well let's say that demon mom made a deal with the goat devil, and got herself what I assume is a necronomicon, in one of the chapters, Unalterable attributes in living things, the thing that remains consistent throughout life is the smell of urine, which allows for the identification of all living beings unequivocally. And literally afterwards it cuts to the chapter, Nightmare creation for groups of infants.

Yeah, extra mode cutscenes is a rather batshit insane story, to explain SOME things that's going on in story mode. And this is what I assume is what's happening, because the writing in this game isn't it's strong suit.

It's as fun as a rhythm based horror game as you're going to get, it does keep you on your toes with the many different monsters it has, though I just wish this game were longer or had more story stuff at least.

If you are at least mildly good at rhythm games, you will be able to beat story mode in like one or two hours. Though extra mode, well the first two levels of it, are bullshit hard.

The best part of the game is just Nekomew himself, and how cute he is.

A man with an imagination larger than the hands he uses to create with is commendable, but he can only be trusted with either money or time, never both.

Furries are bound to come up with big ideas and want to create them. But furries also exist in the biggest hugbox on the planet, so they never have anybody to tell them that the scope of their idea is too big for a single person to make in a reasonable amount of time, at a reasonable quality. A meme is born then: "furries never finish their projects xd"

It comes from a place of truth though - just a quick look at Rack 2, Carnal Souls, any of JasonAfex's interactive diarrhea fests he calls games, etc. will prove the rule.

Speaking of Carnal Souls: I don't know if anyone here has even heard of it, but it's been in development since 2015, raised $44k USD, receives ~$900/month, and somehow there's almost literally nothing playable to show for it. The dev says his goal is to merge The Witcher 3, Skyrim, and Trials in Tainted Space (???), which would explain the piss-poor development speed. There's a Demo and an Alpha, which are just a text-based character creation and GUI-based map movement respectively (with sparse combat in which all buttons are placeholders). Nothing else. This really baffles me considering it's not even a one-man-team.

 No.72470>>72471 >>72472 >>72476

>>72466

I don't think that the issue is scope, there's plenty of other indies performing great progress with their games. Ground Branch, Ready or Not, and Fighting Layer EX come to mind. Not the mention that the furry scope is small as most do text games or VNs. The issue with I see most of furry game developers is that they haven't started on making a first project/game beforehand. It's guaranteed that you'll hit a lot of roadbumps on your first project because you're just learning the ropes, but they just make a Patreon and perform tiny progress because they're lost in a forest.

I give Fek credit for starting on previous projects as he was able to complete flash games. However I think he has it tougher on R2CK since he hasn't used Unity and other 3D tools as well as flash. Flash has every tool that you need bundled in, but with UE4 and Unity require you to use several ones.

We should probably use it as an incentive to make vidya. Would grabbing Udemy tutorials help?

 No.72471>>72474

>>72466

>Carnal Souls

>development since 2015

>$44k USD

>nothing playable to show for it

This is unsurprising, most likely none of the people working on it have contracts or deadlines. This is naturally what occurs when development is unstructured and there's no penalties for taking too long. When you have a publisher who's threatening to stop paying you if you take too long then you start actually producing.

In most actual gamedev studios in order to get funding for a project you at least need a basic concept and a very rudimentary game to show for it before someone pays you to develop it. In this case these people have an "idea" and people gave them money for just that. This is basically an idea guy project.

>The dev says his goal is to merge The Witcher 3, Skyrim, and Trials in Tainted Space (???), which would explain the piss-poor development speed.

>I wanna make a game that people spent half a decade developing, had hundreds of people working on them and millions of dollars in budget

>>72470

>I don't think that the issue is scope

It's a combination of scope and unstructured development. The game's goal is way too ambitious for a group of amateurs.

>The issue with I see most of furry game developers is that they haven't started on making a first project/game beforehand

This is a big component as well, most of these people don't recognize how much work and crunch goes into gamedev, it's a very stressful process of tedious work.

>We should probably use it as an incentive to make vidya

I think a big component to why most furry games don't get made is that they don't understand how important a vertical slice is and getting the gameplay right first. This is why I prefer modding vidya since then you already have the core basic gameplay down and everything you're doing is just "the fun stuff" people associate with making vidya like creating cool looking levels or rendering characters.

A.k.a. the sky is blue and water is wet.

But nobody bothers to check the background of your average furry con artist who claims they can do it, before giving them one million dollars.

Why do you think that guy never reached out for any help, even with a shitload of money at his disposal? Because even if it wasn't porn and actual pros started to help him, they would inevitably take over and he would be useless. He's right in believing that people would take over development.

Because he DOESN'T KNOW JACK SHIT.

Modding is definitely a good idea. Teaches you to be familiar with industry standard software, tools, and practices. I think it's why indies like Project Reality and Ground Branch made good progress.

UE4, Unity, Godot, and other preexisting engines streamline it for modders.

>>72472

I'm not too hard on him as he worked on a game before, but he should have been aware that 3D is an entirely new ballpark. You don't have to deal with writing shaders, creates UVs, and generating FBX files in flash like you do with UE4/Unity.

I'm trying to learn 3D sculpting, modeling, texture, and animation. Hot damn, I entirely underestimated it. Do you have any resources that could guide us folk here? I'm currently following the Zbrush tutorial made in Schoolism.

Hey, all of those are studios staffed by professionals with literally decades of history in the industry. They are not amateurs, they are not hobbyists, this is their primary job. Fighting EX Layer especially so considering Arika previously helmed multiple spin-offs for Capcom's hugest franchise and staffs around 50 full-time employees.

Amateurs like Fek and the Carnal Souls guy do not have professionals by their side, nor experience, nor deadlines, nor investors (backers do not have the same rights as investors), nor IP contracts, nor have they even touched legitimate video game development prior to their respective projects (no, Flash is not applicable). Scope creep is like poison in the fucking well for people like them, and it's unbearably important to understand that when you're rolling solo and have huge ambitions for your first ever project.

If you actually knew how much more shit you need to do and how much more knowledge you need to have before even thinking of being able to do something good with 3D, believe me you WOULD be this hard on him. And whoever defends him, especially.

But you don't.

>You don't have to deal with writing shaders, creates UVs, and generating FBX files in flash like you do with UE4/Unity.

That's a dime-a-dozen explanation by someone who understands very little.

It's fine. Nobody was born with that knowledge. But fuck, ignorant people are the reason why Fek became a millionaire by simply claiming to be able to do MY job without having to actually KNOW how to do my job. So excuse me if I sound like an asshole.

>3d sculpting/modelling

Pick up an anatomy book and study it.

Draw stuff.

Sculpting and modelling is just drawing in 3D. It's more about learning the software. For that, there's the official documentation.

But if you don't know how to break an object in simple shapes, or how muscles work you won't get anywhere. When people tell you that you don't have to know how to draw to do 3D, that's bullshit. Don't believe them. Only shitty, menial tasks don't require a certain degree of artistic skill.

>texturing

Literally grab a photo from google and slap it on something.

Google PBR texturing workflows.

The rest is all about knowing the software.

Substance Painter is the easiest to use.

textures.com has a bunch of shit.

>animation

Both the easiest and hardest discipline.

Can be compared to drawing in terms of learning curve.

Technically, you only need to know which key sets a keyframe in order to animate.

How do you animate well and fast? Oh boi.

12 principles of animation.

Then look at slow-mo videos on youtube.

Act out your animation, record yourself.

Copy it frame by frame.

If you don't have good spacial awareness, don't bother

Oh, don't use Blender.

For fuck's sake, just don't.

Remember when people told you it doesn't matter what tools you have, an artist can come up with something good even with shitty tools?

Well, if you're some masochistic autist psychopath, sure.

Hmm? Why does it matter to you what I say about it? I just want to see the project behind all the talk, and you should be quite proud to share it considering the bold claims you've been harping and swearing about. Sorry to derail whatever was going on above, but I picked up a couple of furry games recently and I wanted to talk about them and my thoughts on them. As a preface, I'm kind of a big cynical critic - when I review media, I tend to focus on what could have been improved more than what was good, generally because what was bad is what immediately impacts my enjoyment of the game. I'm generally able to recognize the enjoyment in an activity on a basic level, but frequently something that meets or only barely exceeds my expectations won't really get mentioned.

With that in mind, I'll structure my thoughts to cover what I think are the three biggest contributors to an enjoyable gaming experience: Gameplay, musical score, visual quality/consistency and story presentation. Incidentally, I've ordered these in what I believe carry the most weight for a video game in its truest form. You could have a great story with mediocre music, but if it has no or bad gameplay to accompany it, then it should not have been in the format of a video game. Visual novels are a suitable alternative media format for dense stories that don't accompany gameplay very well at a moment-to-moment basis. I believe that a good musical score is more important to accentuate gameplay than the presentation of a coherent story - many games have been great on gameplay and music alone, but I could not tell you a single game that I felt was fine with a focus on story and gameplay but with glaringly bad audio (on a modern level - some super ancient games before game design could easily meet this metric just because they didn't have much to go off of, such as Chip's Challenge or Commander Keen). As far as art goes, I'm going to call that category "Visual Quality and Consistency" because I don't think games necessarily need to have stellar graphics, just unified and thematic graphics appropriate for the content displayed.

Also, I'm pretty big on completion. I generally always feel the pull to accomplish "100%," whether its through Achievement standards or personal standards, and one of the biggest signs that I consider a game passably good is going back to cover missed achievements. Intentionally passing on a game with missing achievements shows that either I did not enjoy the game, or there is something else going on. A few examples: I'm really big on platformers, but I did not do any Iron Boy achievements in Super Meat Boy. Not necessarily because I think it's bad, but in this case I consider the game so shittily coded and in the process of my regular 106% playthrough I encountered so many bugged deaths, I decided it was not a worthwhile endeavor. On the other hand, Binding of Isaac is a game that I think has some serious balancing issues, and while at first I reached True Platinum God, around the time Edmund started throwing a bitchfit about his ARGs or whatever I kind of stopped caring about achievement hunting in that game.

So first I want to bring up is Changed. I browse Pixiv frequently and just kind of luckily stumbled upon this, but there's a sizeable Western furry community that actually knows this exists. It's such a weird game - it's on Steam, as an actual game, and it's actually currently on sale during the Steam Summer Sale, but just a few quick clicks through preview images will really make you scratch your head and wonder how.

To summarize shortly: Changed is an Action-Escape stylized game where death scenes are latex transfurmations. You play as a human, allegedly the last human on Earth after an outbreak of a deadly, unknown virus as a result of polar ice caps melting (fucking lol) and you run away from black and white latex monsters that consume you and turn you into latex furries. And... there's a lot of unique "deaths" in this way. Honestly, it's kind of impressive just how many unique deaths are packed into this tiny little game.

The gameplay is... Interesting. I have seriously mixed feelings on the matter, because it's self-proclaimed as hard but truly it's just kind of bullshit. I describe it as an "Action Escape" because almost every action sequence that shows up is playing a game of Tag, except everything in the world but you is It. That inconspicuous puddle? That poster on the wall? That vent on the ground? That save point on the wall? All of them are It. The entire gimmick of the game is that you just.. Don't get touched. Ever. If you get touched, you reload your save by pressing F12 and try again. And oh man, here's where it really falls apart. You can't save freely at any moment - you have to interact with predesignated save points, and the frustrating part of it all is that you can have triggers or text boxes that you have to scroll through every single time you retry an area. The movement is also really imprecise. It's all tile-based, but the movement is backloaded instead of frontloaded. As soon as you press the arrow key, your entity exists in the next tile over, but you have to watch the entire walking animation. The result is a few sketchy deaths where visually you had never touched anything, and a few parts in the game that require precise walking with imprecise controls, so it doesn't really stand on its own very well. See image 3 for an example guide of my solution after trial-and-erroring one sequence for about 15 minutes.

The music is fun. A bunch of short little ditties, but they do their job well. I bought the soundtrack because I enjoyed it enough and am a huge musicfag, and I'll upload it if anyone has interest for it. They're chiptuney and really matches the visual art style very well, and match the mood of the gameplay decently well without ever really going overboard. Despite having to listen to some tunes on loop for a long time as I scrolled through dialogue or retried bullshit areas, I never didn't enjoy the music.

 No.75225>>75265

>>75224

The visual art style is of decent quality - it's all low-resolution sprite art, but none of the sprites are particularly bad on their own and most importantly the sprites are all extremely unified. This is definitely where the game shines quite a bit, and given the fetishy nature of the art, it's clear that the rest of the game was really just a vehicle for the art. That said, it's certainly appreciable the amount of fine detail that goes into it - there's tons of unique arts for all of the possible deaths, and generally so long as someone is a furry in the first place, there's very probably going to be at least something that can be appreciated, even without the relevant latexy fetish.

The story is where I would say Changed really shines. There are a lot of really interesting little things, and it's in no way as a result of the world setting, but just a few things that I can only describe as being hilariously accidentally great. The biggest thing is the double meaning of the title - at face value, it's all about the fetish. The fetish is that whenever you game over, you get Changed. But as you progress through the story, you build your relationship with the main (love?) interest Puro, and you instead hit on all kinds of tones about internal struggles and growing and changing into someone that can handle the challenges demanded of them. The impressive part about this is that it's all portrayed with surprising fluency despite the horribly broken English - you could see the entirety of narration and speaking as being through Puro (with one exception) who was a mindless latex creature whom accidentally learned how to read, but never had real human interaction. When you first meet Puro, he has difficulty expressing himself, and it accidentally comes out in a way that seems extremely organic for someone barely fluent in the language.

More surprisingly about the story is that it actually works quite effectively in tandem to the gameplay. Despite its flaws, the gameplay serves its purpose for making the player feel like they earned the next bit of story, the next interaction with Puro. Even though the gameplay is seriously flawed, its difficulty and simplicity really helped me feel like I was controlling Lin throughout his story, and helping him see it to its true conclusion. This is something I think games really miss out on now when they're so heavily story-based - the gameplay fails to accentuate the story, so you never feel like you have agency over the story, but instead you're just there for the ride. With Changed, I was there for the ride, and sometimes I wanted off, but god damn it I got to pull some levers along the way and turn into some latex monsters along the way.

I went through the effort of replaying the entire fucking game just to get the true ending (and associated achievements) because of its abysmal saving system.

Rating: Puro is qt/10.

 No.75226>>75227 >>75265

The next game I hit up is OneShot. I would loosely call it furry, primarily only because the main character, Niko, is a little catgirl. Further inspection upon the world provides that this is very unique to the main character: all other characters are robots or weird sci-fi creatures like that one Dice Guy from Cuphead Except This Time He's a Librarian.

It's hard to talk about this game in detail without spoiling it, and if it is to be played, it's an experience meant to go completely unspoiled, so I'll give a very barebones review here: It's an adventure game where you go around and interact with lots of things and play around with stuff in your inventory screen. I think it's a cool premise but they did not pull it off in a good way, so despite the decent worldbuilding and adorable art style, I struggle to rate it much higher than like 6/10. I didn't completely hate the experience, and I can see why people would like it, but it wasn't very good adventuring gameplay and the characters aren't really deep enough outside of its one big gimmick to warrant much care.

Spoilers begin now.

The game opens up with you controlling Niko in a strange new world, where she finds a light bulb. This light bulb is the world's sun - which died a while ago, and is just barely surviving off of bioluminescence for power. Niko is then branded the Messiah, the one which will bring light to the world, as guided by... (You). The player. You open a text box and the game pulls from, presumably, your Windows Account Name, to talk to (You) directly (which Niko later questions what it was about). It very quickly separates that you are the player, and Niko is her own being that you just so happen to control. And thus it marks the core catch of the game: (You) only have one shot.

Gameplay was fucking god awful garbage shit. I spent four hours of my life just walking around, talking to things and interacting with everything to get really slow and negligible world building leaked to me with really shitty "adventure game puzzles," if you could even call them that. Most of them amount to just talking to everyone until you collect all of the relevant materials, then backtracking a little bit to use them in pretty obvious places. "Oh, a metal bar!! If only I could flatten it somehow to open that box..." Niko says, standing five feet away from an active crusher. The worst part is the game introduces a few meta puzzles, to really drive home that (You) are not Niko, to completely divorce you from the fantasy. You reach a lock with a 6-digit code to open, and Niko says she hasn't seen any codes around, and asks if (You) have. You might be clever and try your current date or something like that, but no... The answer is to talk to a computer that opens up some Windows text boxes that tells you it put a file in \My Documents\ that contains the code.

But it gets worse! I can only hope to furry jesus that this was just a cosmic fluke of RNG, but later, at the end-game stage of the regular path of the game, you have a door you have to open through a Mastermind puzzle. There are a couple of lights that change colours when you interact with them, and you pull a switch to see which colours were correct. When I first activated the puzzle, my light order was Orange Orange Orange Orange Orange. The colours cycle Orange, Purple, Green, Red. The correct order was Purple Orange Orange Orange Orange. wtf.

Music was decent but unmemorable. I played Changed days before I played OneShot, and even now as I'm typing this, I can't really remember any OneShot tunes but I can some Changed music.

Art was acceptable. They did an admirable job making the world beautiful despite having the core premise of it being pitch black, I will admit that much, and Niko's character design is cute and adequately childish.

Whoops I forgot the images oh well.

>>75226

Story sucked. Niko didn't really have any character development - the character development was all at certain points she asks personal questions about (You), and she answered pretty blandly. To summarize Niko as a character: Afraid of ladders, favourite food is Pancakes. It's so baffling that it made me actually return to Changed: Lin, the human in Changed, actually has more personification than Niko does. I'm serious! Lin has actual emotions shown in several animations and cutscenes, not even related to transformation. Niko is just fear of ladders and pancakes.

And I think this is really where it falls apart when it really introduces the gimmick. About three and a half hours in, the game decides it's tired of stringing you along in a broken world, and decides to shit all over you. This unknown entity that has been helping you through computers suddenly delivers this ultimatum: If the sun is returned to the top of the tower, then Niko can never return to her home. However, if you smash the lightbulb so that Niko returns home, the world is deleted. Most satisfyingly about the latter ending is that she actually walks off of the window, onto your monitor, and continually walks down until off of your monitor.

And then your savefile is locked and you can never play OneShot again. That's its gimmick.

Which is so fucking cool for completionists like me who see from a mile away that the true ending is by saving the world, because of a few loose ends left dangling throughout the world, and want to get the bad ending out of the way before continuing forward. Even more fascinatingly is that they appear to have went to great lengths to make it decently obnoxious to delete your save file and start over, which combined with the utter lack of actual gameplay made me decide, at least in the immediate timespan, not to finish the game's achievements. I looked up the rest: You plug in the sun, then you do a runback through the world to hit all of the totally super foreshadowed areas and end up reaching a point where Niko can go home while the world is also saved.

The thing about this is.. I don't even dislike the gimmick itself. I'm actually probably happier with the story as it ended now - Niko was cute, the world was boring, so I saved the better option. The problem lies in the fact that it was so hamfisted despite not having its proper buildup. When Niko asks me all of the personal questions about my world, about my life, that would have been a great time to really let her personality show, especially one forged on a unique, individual basis. Instead of just talking to everything and slowly getting forcefed worldbuilding, if there was actual gameplay that, like Changed, made me feel rewarded for completing gameplay segments, I would have felt rapport for the character that I'm controlling. And by shattering the fourth wall so immediately to separate Niko from (You), they really make it harder to actually care. I'm not suspending my disbelief that I am Niko. She's no longer my avatar. I'm pressing movement buttons and reading text boxes and then I'm given a choice. That's the "game."

Having a true ending is what really makes it terrible, though. This could have been a great time to have a narrative-driven ending that isn't satisfying, but is extremely appropriate. Infinity Wars' ending wasn't satisfying. There was no victory, no fanfare. The movie brings you to hate the villain and think he's wrong or misguided, and then he wins and goes on to do exactly what he says he was going to do after he wins. The ending works and it feels like the correct ending for the story, and the merit of this ending is in how that feeling of satisfaction for the audience is snatched away. That moment of despair as the audience realises that, yes, Thor lost, Guardians lost, everyone lost... That's the closest moment the audience will ever feel to how those heroes felt in that moment. Just as half of the world crumbles in the arms of the other half, the happiness of a story happily concluded crumbles just within reach of the audience.

Now imagine going to see Infinity Wars, and halfway through the movie there's a popularity vote for the audience to chime in on their phones as if it were American Idols - option A, the avengers die but Thanos loses, or option B, the avengers live but Thanos wins - but that this is a false dilemma, because any audience that votes for option A gets the entire negative part of the choice retconned away because fucking lol. And that's OneShot.

Next up is Night in the Woods, which so far holds promise as having a very fun world to interact with, but I'm worried that it, like OneShot, won't actually have gameplay and will instead be me walking around reading text boxes. Press Esc at the option to Stay or Leave. You get the third ending. Spoilers on the ending in next line:

For some reason Dr. K doesn't really bring up the totally obvious and doable option, which is to Change Lin (the Human) in the same way that he himself was changed. Dr. K maintained his full human faculties, but became a white latex creature. He offers this is a third solution for Lin because of Lin's hesitation for either answer, but it has pronounced drawbacks - the entire basis of the game is alleged shamefulness in losing one's humanity, both physically and ideologically. Despite Lin being the same person, he is no longer "human," which is implied to be the moral dilemma with the change. It's also an arduous transformation. After Lin's successful change into a good white latex dog, both he and Puro safely leave the tower with absolutely no drawbacks, and the ending scene reoccurs except they're basically canonically dating instead of Lin dying.

>never played it

>tries to pass off knowledge of the story

The main character is a female punk cat, yes, but any theming to suggest her as an alternative sexuality is very subtly implied - the entirety of the story's love theming for the main character revolves around her ex-boyfriend and how because of her anger issues she snapped and beat the shit out of him.

One of her best friends (whom you spent most of the game repairing the friendship with) is a female, but she is also verifiably straight in that her entire arc builds up to a final moment where her attempts to impress a city-boy was ruined by the main character. In fact, they kind of hate each other. The achievement for completing this character arc is called "Best Available Friend," and that sums up their feelings towards one another.

Main character's other best friend is a gay guy who has some bipolar disorder. I didn't go through that arc because I didn't want to sit through everything again just to see what's up with him, but it didn't seem fun.

Main character's relationship with parents is actually really good.

The reason main character has issues is there's an Eldritch horror residing inside the town that has led to a cult that snatches people away to feed them to a bottomless pit underneath a mine, and that horror invades MC's dreams and sends her into a deep, destructive depression. Not lying.

The main character is a girl, yes. She is pretty androgynous and even gets referred to as dude very frequently - really, I don't think she is referred to by a pronoun at any point in time, and you're only to surmise she is a female by occasional snippets that mostly only make sense if she were a female than a male.

Ahoy mateys, I just found this game on Steam for the summer sale. It's $5 atm ($10 full price) and it's pretty good. It has the most kickass soundtrack I've heard since Cuphead and it explicitly mentions furries in the trailer so they know what's up.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/665030/

Gameplay is ok. All 4 playable characters have unique strengths and weaknesses and the game does a good job of giving each of them a moment in the spotlight, except for Lisa who is just Lone++ because she has longer melee range and a better upward power attack. You won't need to pull off any complex combos or land pixel-perfect moves to beat any bosses. Challenging but not complicated.

The game's personality is a mixed bag. The cartoony artwork is lively and fantastic, and the worldbuilding is great for such a small game. Great character and environment design. The humor is largely a miss however, being the equivalent of an Amy Schumer standup (lol I fuck my brother aren't I such a bitch). There were a couple more creative and innocent jokes that made me laugh, though.

No bugs that I've found. However there's an exploit that makes the game 50x easier. All enemies respawn when you leave a room, and enemies drop healing hearts, so if you're in trouble just stand by the room door, kill a slow, easy enemy by the door, collect its heart, then leave and repeat to reset your health bar. Completely takes the endurance component out of the game.

Overall I'd recommend it for $5. Especially since its a furry game and I wanna support furry developers.

Just marathoned this on my day off over the weekend because I couldn't put it down.

Seriously, I had to live off ramen for a couple days because I needed to buy groceries when I had the chance instead of playing a mouse game all day

My only real issues with it are how short it is and how much it needs some DLC or a sequel.

It has a climax, but none of the main issues are solved by the end of the game.

Everything is left wide the fuck open for the story to be continued and I'm simultaneously hyped and worried.

It's so obvious they have more plans for the game, yet they could easily be unable to continue considering how small of a developer they are.

Personally I hate stealth games, but the stealth in Ghost of a Tale seems like the Mario Kart to Splinter Cell's Forza.

It's definitely still stealth, but things are tuned more so you can have fun with it rather than it aiming for extreme realism.

They attempt to explain the "looseness" of the mechanics by noting that the rats at Dwindling Heights are there because they're shit at their jobs, and that being posted there is basically a dead end for your soldiering career.

The real draws of the game are just exploring the keep and the surrounding island, meeting the NPCs, and getting at the story and setting though.

Seriously, I can't remember the last time I was so pissed that I couldn't see all the distant places that get mentioned, but it also just further proves to me that these people have some serious plans to follow through with if they're given the chance.

Stories is actually a pretty good game, though probably not worth $15. Still worth paying money for, though.

Gameplay-wise, it's basically a beat em up sort of in the vein of Arkham Asylum, where you manage multiple enemies at once with various upgradeable tools and manuvers. It cribs pretty heavily in that respect, but that's not necessarily a bad thing, especially since the major focus is on the storyline instead.

The story is actually pretty damn good; it's a choice-based game where the choices you make actually matter to determine the course of the story, and will lead you to one of many, many possible endings. Your goal is to inevitably die horribly from your poor choices and figure out what you did wrong so that you can try to eventually muddle your way to a golden ending.

Yeah, it really soiled the experience for me. I was actually digging it as a very long-winded, slice of life "experience," despite being frustrated with it trying to be a game but very clearly not being a game. I would have liked it better if it just went on forever without trying to tie it all together with an overarching plot - outside of the loose "hints" towards the finale and the sudden acceleration into bullshit in the last day, every single day stands on its own as a pretty much unique, individual thing.

Practically speaking, there's very little in Mae's life that really enables her behavioral disorder. This isn't to say people can't be like that given her situation, but it just rings.. less realistic. All of the other characters have much more realistic character flaws, particularly in that they have dealt with it in a productive way.

Mae, on the other hand, has rather caring parents, if maybe slightly detached. Her father has a sarcastic, joking tone, one which Mae understands is joking and even inherits herself. Her mother is very passionate about their religion, but Mae has strayed from the faith and.. the mom doesn't pressure Mae on it, which is like the most wholesome religious attitude possible and displays an immense amount of respect and understanding towards the "rebellious teenage" phase as the teenager searches for their identity. The parents took loans out against the house to send Mae to college, a great opportunity that no one else in that town has really been able to take - one which she just squanders because she.. can't stand shapes, because spooky horrors. It's not entirely unbelievable, but it's just like... As someone who personally had very serious family issues but otherwise took a very similar path through life (I ruined all of my friendships in high school due to my depression - went to college for a while and, despite being very capable of learning, I just wasn't actualizing myself in that scenario. I dropped out of college and returned to my small town, and struggled to get into working) it just kind of baffles me. She acts *worse* than I ever did, and I being all kinds of abused by my mother and grandfather leaves me wishing I had a supporting nuclear family like she did.

Of course, it's hard to really directly compare everyone's behavioral disorders to their relationship with parents and their environment, but it felt kind of like a disconnect on the writing for the character, one which rings of the creator being a shitlord cuck who has never experienced actual abuse and is just trying to justify their lack of meaning in life. By the way the creator is a massive faggot so there's that.

I had a pretty lengthy response debating the philosophy of "reasons," but honestly it's kind of moot because you mistook my original post. I'll quote the relevant line:

>there's very little in Mae's life that really enables her behavioral disorder. This isn't to say people can't be like that given her situation, but it just rings.. less realistic.

It's not a question of "why" she is the way she is - the game's justification is some Eldritch bullshit haunting the town, but in the real world I'm sure there are several Maes, just because of biological issues that lead to similar states of mind as what Mae portrays. It's a complaint about the character writing - she isn't ENABLED to have the behavior she has.

>>76473

I don't... really understand this line. People experiencing gender dysphoria do statistically commit suicide at a far increased rate relative to other defined groups, and this includes both pre- and post-transition.

Well.. It's going to be true to some extent. Anyone that gets bullied has an increased risk to suicidal ideations. Depending on how far you stretch your definition of "furry", Caves of Qud might count given that mutant PCs can have a litany of mutations like having wings or being taurs or whatnot.

Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead might also qualify in the same sense considering that there are rare mutagens that can turn you into various flavors of furry, albeit at a likely risk of developing less desirable mutations as well.

Both are great games even without the furry aspects though, so I'd advise giving them a shot if you like roguelikes.

 No.90400

>>84833

>>83995

I think the good folks here are owed an expansion on the thought of "why do they suck?"

Let's start with the fertile grounds.

The furry community is, for the most part, built around folk art. Since folk artists are removed from industry practices by definition, they're often unaware of them. An amateur with unmetered dreams will likely leap into a misleadingly complex project, which spans a bunch of heavily involved industries that aren't always apparent.

There's also a common theme of artists that lack a serious appreciation for their themes and content, with bland writing and obligatory plots abound.

Add a generous helping of smut to the mix, and you're likely to get a pretty singular focus - somebody who is more interested in expressing their own brand of sexuality than they are in making an airtight demo for a critical crowd.

An artist working on a professional project is, ideally, accustomed to the boring but crucial pillars of their job. They research and understand their subject matter; they ruthlessly hone their content, both in concept and in design; and they develop an understanding of the absolutely, positively, undeniably *essential* theory that underlies their work.

An unprepared homebrewer starts with their passions, and lets everything else fall in line. Some people figure it out, like Fredryck Phox. Most just blindly stumble their way through a simple narrative, which they've already become attached to from thinking so hard about it.

Without a theoretical background, the amateur tries to emulate the parts of games that they enjoy or admire, without truly understanding them. It's not unlikely that they lack knowledge or practice in how to properly form concepts and content, and piece them together into a story; if the artist doesn't have a a wide pool of experience, it leaves their work feeling speculative, derivative, and dishonest.

In the end, this leaves the developer to buckle when they try to hold down a number of creative disciplines they didn't anticipate, to a professional level of quality; and they crumble when they're put under our viciously polarised public scrutiny. I mean, really, we lynch each other with the critical backing of a cheap insult.

Some projects are pretty shoddy, but prodding the ego of an ego-driven creator doesn't help the learning experience.

Unlike the professionals, we tend exacerbate the personal problems. The more serious a project is, the better the chance that developers know what they're doing, and the more likely it is that difficult, unreliable, or incompetent people will be squeezed out before the project is underway. It's how you can tell that >>72496 has probably returned to the fandom like the prodigal son, to work on personal projects.

This whole situation isn't unique to the fandom or erotic games. You can see it in homebrew projects on places like GameJolt and IndieDB, and with breakout indie teams.... Or, really, wherever a content creator becomes so engrossed in their super duper cool idea, that then end up with a deathly case of creative tunnel-vision. And yet, the train-wrecks that happen within the fandom have so much more carnage than the others - not in scope, but in spite.

A lot of these projects don't intend to fail, or to scam, or do whatever. And we know this. It's just that old human failing of leading with the heart, and then being too embarrassed to accept or admit that you've been swept up into the snowball that you were once rolling down the hill.

TL,DR: Everybody wants to be a mad cool games dev whose cult of personality pays them to work on their own ideas - and nobody wants to put in the thankless study before they can flaunt it. When those kinds of projects are fueled by obsessives, and derided by everyone else, it's no surprise that we're always seeing them go up in flames.

Just finished Moss. It's a slasher/puzzle/3d platforming game, sometimes all 3 at the same time, it's a bit short though. The environments look pretty epic, the graphics and animations are really cute. After a boss battle the MC actually high fived me, it was nuts. There's a town populated by these characters but it's the only place you'll see a friendly face, they'll do a waving finger gesture at you if you swing your sword. But every other location is either devoid of life or infested with beetles. Difficulty curve is a bit off, with the last stages being comparatively easy. It has hidden collectibles so it rewards you for exploring, which I thought was a nice touch. It doesn't explain anything though, so I was fumbling like a retard with simple puzzles because it wasn't clear that certain options were available. Cool game, recommend it.

Seeing the half-assed stuff that gets 10k on patreon is a little depressing, when I know I could make such awesome things with a tiny fraction of that funding. Regardless, I'll power on and let me work win people over in due time ._.

The game will be a dialogue/puzzle driven adventure rpg in a modern day realistic setting (with anthro characters). What is with the weird anti lewd spin in furry lately?

Let the guy make the game he wants

Aiming for any audience is stupid, just make a game

That's the beauty of indie development, you don't have suits pushing you onto your knees and telling you to suck off the profitable demographics. You can just make something that's fun for you.

You reacted with emotions. Cool down, and read my post again. If you still won't get it, read it 20 times until you do.

A symptom of autism is the inability to discern emotions, might not hurt to get checked.

>anti lewd spin

There's a big difference between who will play a game, and who will play a porn game, as well as what they'll be wanting from the experience.

Games take a lot longer to make than a picture or something, so you need to be 100% sure you're spending all that time to get the results you want in the long run.

I like that mid 90s DOS 3D software rendering aesthetic, which is a nice change from the tired 80s pixel art that's been done to death.
