So what do you guys think of this game? I love the aesthetic, but the combat doesn't look very smooth.

It looks a little janky yeah, but when I saw it's from former Just Cause devs that doesn't really surprise me, that game never had great combat. That said, it's still in pretty early stages so you never know.

I like how mangy the characters look. It makes the sparkledog colors excusable.

>A mechsuit that's a giant hand which can flick people or shoot them by doing the "finger-gun" thing

That's one of the most amazingly original things I've ever seen.

Good, good, it looks promising, certainly...

HOWEVER...

where are the sexy or cute female furmutants?

Combat looks much smoother in this video. Can't say I like the narrator though.

Just from the aesthetic, I'm interested.

I'll definitely be keeping an eye. Rare you get a world that really does everything from scratch, rather than the usual 'point ear human, short human, ugly human, regular human, also furry race' trash.

Really like the look of the world, running around in post apocalyptic buildings and shit is my jam.

The combat is looking good too, seems like there will be a good variety of basic abilities, the air combos looked satisfying, I liked the defensive options like sliding between the legs of bigger guys, and that's not even including the mutations.

The narrator needs to shut the fuck up during combat though.

He's not too bad when describing what's going on while exploring, but as soon as he just starts shouting POW and KABAM while you're fighting I start hoping there's a way to turn him off.

If he's going to commentate on combat, it needs to be short quips about rarer occurrences, not making annoying sound effects just because you hit something.

Watching those early animations is painful though, looking forward to later builds with more polish.

Narrator is pure cancer, and the gameplay looks very incoherent. Everything actually important is super "muh immersion"-tier minimal, but then they throw "QUEST COMPLETE NEW QUEST KILL THE ENEMY" and shit in the middle of the screen every 2 seconds. Every miniboss is the same thing reskinned and every other encounter seems to have one.

It's like they didn't know what kind of game to make or how to make it, big developers are always shit at innovation and it's pretty clear from all of that. Looks like they wanted to make an open world game but also a strictly narrated story but also a room-by-room hack and slash but also looting crafting simulator, and not a single one of those look great. If you can turn off every single notification and narrator and popup in the game then it would already improve significantly.

Seems like such a waste of artistic effort because everything looks great visually. There seems to be an over-abundance of artistic talent in the industry, but hardly any game design knowledge at all.

They talked about this in their interview. Apparently there were no meetings, no management. Every dev just added what seemed cool to them.

>Every dev just added what seemed cool to them.

I'm incredibly surprised they wound up with something as good as this then.

They're still going to have to bring some order to that chaos though.

Honestly I love hearing about when devs get the freedom so few of them get to enjoy, but there always needs to be some management to keep things in order or else ideas begin to clash and you wind up with an incohesive game that feels awkward to play.

>that narration

I thought you couldn't dumb games down any more than they are, but this is really obnoxious. Why did they do this? Is this supposed to cater to literal retards?

I guess if it were a pretentious commiefag walk simulator, you'd think it was the best shit ever, eh?

 No.41704>>41705

Narration is really unsuited. Should be a survivalist type voice. Possibly australian. A karma system is an instant turn off. I'm absolutely tired of three option "player choice" systems too. Just give us an actual character for once with a straightforward story. None of this illusion of control where "your action have consequences".

 No.41705

>>41704

I guess it was meant to parody a nature documentary as they are animals, but it does kill the immersion.

 No.41793

>>41678

And where did you get that idea? Clearly you were just upset I don't like what you like.

I don't like narration that tells you everything that is happening that you can tell already as if I were retarded. I don't like overt clues and guidance in games in general.

Aren't walking simulators and other mainstream leftypol-pushing games actually more likely to be like that?

If you only specifically meant Night in the Woods, no I don't think I would like it, haven't played it.

>There seems to be an over-abundance of artistic talent in the industry, but hardly any game design knowledge at all.

Actually, there is an over-abundance of absolutely retarded game designers.

When big names aren't involved, no-name game designers fill entire departments doing absolutely jack shit, bickering between themselves and trying to boss around the programming and art departments which tell them to go fuck themselves most of the time.
