Hi /fit/,

Long time lurker here, never had the conviction or motivation to truly see the light that is gainz, but now its time. I need to shed the the normie image i have and ascend. I have flip flopped between regular gym time and diet planning, and literally doing nothing. At my peak i went 3 times a week, pretty much just used machines (too intimidated for public free weights just yet) and did a little cardio

Some context, 5'8'' manlet, 140lbs with a higher body fat % (I dont know specifically but my body type is chubby as of current). Eventual goal is around 155/160ish with a low body fat.

Am i better off trying to shift off the fat before going for gains, or just bulking and working x2 to cut the fat while building muscle? Ive had some suggestions from friends who gym regularly, some recommending a do Keto diet for about 3 weeks and then following a standard gym and diet plan, some saying just bulk from the get go.

Any input/recommendations welcome. Inb4 /fit/ isnt your personal trainer, if you need a specific question: Shift fat then gain, or gain then shift fat?

Forgot to mention, 160lbs is just a starting goal, eventually want push up toward 180+

You could focus first on weight loss and then bulk or try the 2 at the same time, you should be able to considering you're a newbie

Okay, certainly down for not wasting any time, so this would be a high protein/fat low sugar/carb sorta deal then. Keto-ish

First off, speak in real people's measurements, you're not a murica.

Second, looks like you're pretty slim fat, I'm a 168cm manlet with 72kg and a rather low bf%, probably around 12 to 14, keep your expectations in check, its gonna take a while.

Third, keto-ish diet is a meme, you want high prot, high carbs, but with better nutritious food and within your caloric range.

Slim fat is v accurate, will probably try cut fat and gain muscle at the same time, to save myself from cutting down to a skele lookin ass

We inherited our measurement system from the Brits and until some years ago they were using it too.

Abuse your extra body weight. You gain nothing by cutting and then bulking for your noob gains. You won't believe how quickly the fat melts off of you if you just start lifting with an otherwise unaltered diet. Fat is energy, stored, which will give you a comfortable buffer between getting muscles and becoming emaciated. A buffer you should use to adjust your diet (up - because unless you're very active currently, you'll need to eat so much more than you think).
