They are fucking death traps. Why would I ever use them? My plates never slipped off.

They are inconsequential most of the time, but a death trap for noobs, when they want to bench.

You won't be able to save yourself, if you bench alone. You can't slip the plates off. Why would you want that?

>lifting more than you can or should

that's the retarded movement, safety pins serve a purpose of letting the weights just hand lose,

may not mean too much for bench presses, but once a plate falls on you feet or something you will regret it

Fuck off

6f511b  No.144491

who calls them "safety pins"? they're not designed to increase safety, they're just to prevent the plates from moving around the bar to help your lift. it sucks if you don't have them and the bar goes off balance for a sec 'cause then a plate can slide and alter the center of mass for the barbell for the whole rest of the lift.

77665e  No.144492

Lol can't even bench 225 for more than 1 rep. He should just quit.

I think the real retarded part of that image is that the weight was fucking crushing him to death by just resting on his chest. Just roll it down to your fucking hips – how the hell does 225 on your chest squeeze the air out of your lungs?

94730a  No.144544

Yeah man. Safeties are fucking worthless. Almost as bad as using your thumbs when you bench press. You can lift way more weight with a thumbless grip. It's a small tweak but it makes a huge difference.

73d57b  No.144618

I've saved myself benching with safeties numerous times. I set them above my face but below my chest so if I fail I can just drop it backwards. It isn't hard to set up or do.

he means the clips that hold the plates on the barbell. bad idea if you don't have a spotter

2871ac  No.144641

Lift in a cage. There is no reason you should ever need to dump the weights off the bar. It's far easier to get a little unbalanced and accidentally dump weights and then cause a bigger problem.

Who let you on the computer? Get back in your cage you animal.

9e22a7  No.144660

It's happened to me a few times. Just do the roll of shame, sit up and rack the bar. It's extremely simple.

d8f49f  No.144670

I concur. Telling newfags to drop weights off the bar is retarded, and a good way to have them injure their shoulder and never come back to a gym.

This is bait, yes? Or you're trying to get some poor retard to believe you and suffer injuries.

The part about thumbs is true, but just about everyone knows it's a risk without a safety rack to catch a falling barbell. Every now and then someone thinks they're special and that they can get away with it, and it surprises no one when they get broken ribs one day. The only reason thumbs get in the way is because the optimal wrist positioning to obtain the most leverage is neutral and in line with the forearm unlike a regular pushup where the hand is bent back. Thumbless grips are much more reasonable with overhead presses where you can expect a barbell to just fall on the ground in front of you.

>Thumbless grips

There is a reason it is called "suicide grip".
