How does one cover their bony ribs with flesh? Is there even any muscle there? I swear over the last year I significantly improved the shape of my chest and abs, but bones sticking out of my sides still make me look like I'm in birkenau mode.

Work your abs and obliques more; also, your back.

Gymnastics could do you well. You probably have the build for it. You'll get pretty ripped and build all those tiny muscles if you put all your effort into it and don't take any shortcuts.

Adding or focusing on core and back work will cover all your bases.
