This is probably the only reliable way to cut down on recovery time other than a strict regimen of RICE (rest, ice, compression, and elevation). Of course they aren't magic and there's no way you can go from sprain to marathon ready in two weeks, so it's best to stay home and let it heal on its own over the next month or so, marathon be damned.
I sure hope you aren't the OP, by the way. Telling people not to visit a physio but going to acupuncture instead is off-the-charts retardation. Might as well throw that money into a fountain and hope for a miracle.
