So I was thinking, body hair doesn't magically grow out of nothing, it must use up nutrients to do so. So if you were to trim your hair (no wax/laser shave, we actually want the hair to grow back), would it have a significant impact on your BMR? Any biology majors willing to chip in?

Not enough to justify the massive amount of time needed to shave your entire body. At absolute most it would be 10 calories, and this is only if you're a walking forest of hair.
