What does /fit/ think of the following Novice routine ?

It's basically SS (inb4 Rippetoads telling me not to fuck with the program and that aesthetics aren't important) with added assistance and hypertrophy work. 3 Times a week alternating between A and B.

It's also basically Blaha's ICF 5x5 excep it's 3x5 and with Power Cleans instead of rows on A days.

Workout A (in order):

Squat: 3x5

Bench: 3x5

Power Clean: 5x3

Romanian DL: 2x8

Curls: 3x12

Tricep Extension: 3x8

Light Shrugs: 3x16

Cable Crunches: 3x10

Workout B:

Squat: 3x5

Overhead Press: 3x5

Deadlift: 1x5

Close Grip BP: 3x5

Romanian DL: 2x8

Rows: 3x8

Curls: 3x12

Cable Crunches: 3x10

Been fucking around at the gym(ie: my garage) for about 3-4 months and have seen some definite size gains (in the look-good-without-shirt-on way anyway) doing StrongLifts first and then starting on Blaha's ICF 5x5.

I say fucking around because even though I stuck to the program I stopped making strength gains and currently stalled at pretty low weight.

I think I realize the mistakes I've been making after rereading Starting Strength:

Attempting to progress linearly on the assistance lifts same with the same frequency as the main lifts, seeing them as goals in and of themselves rather than means to an end (increasing strength on the main lifts)

The volume of the main lifts gets way too high after a while on ICF 5x5 to progress consistently.

The weights i've stalled at rn are as follows:

(5'7", Male, 145 lbs)

Bench: 50 kg (110 lbs) (I've got a messed up shoulder, this lift will always suck for me)

OH Press: 37.5 kg (82.5 lbs)

Squat: 81kg (180 lbs)

Deadlift: 105 kg (230 lbs) (currently deloaded to 90 kg following a lower-back injury)

Rows: 47.5 kg

(Pic is some insta fitchick).

Ikr? SS is bullshit, it makes you look like a bullfrog with huge ass and thighs, but no muscle anywhere else. Everybody that seems like they know what they're talking about says squatting every day is stupid. But /fit/ won't give me a better routine, because 'if you don't do SS then you'll NEVER get gainz', amiright? So I'm stuck with it.

first of all, your routine is shit….

second of all, you nerds really need to be more specific, why is that every sperg that comes to this board is trying this "SS" and "ICF" meme bullshit?

speak like true men and explain what does these means,

I'm not required to know what retard youtuber you people are memeing nowadays

Do you even lift bro?

So, you're a beginner with lower back problems and a messed up shoulder and you're wondering why a routine like SS hasn't worked for you despite tweaking it repeatedly?

Why don't you try a bodyweight routine or a bodybuilding/fitness oriented routine with lighter weights and physio type exercises for core, rear shoulder and back?

 No.127518

Your routine should follow your goals. If you only want aesthetics, I don't know why you're worrying about how heavy your lifts are. I also don't think your noob gains are an accurate reflection of the effectiveness of a program; anyone makes massive gains in the first 3 months.

>inb4 Rippetoads telling me not to fuck with the program

Like a quarter of Starting Strength (the book) is dedicated to assistance exercises and variations. They are meant to help bust plateaus, not to improve aesthetics. Put them in when you have trouble, take them out when you start progressing. Adding in like five assistance exercises will only wear you out, especially if you do them before the core lifts.

SS is simple for a reason; it keeps beginners focused on the lifts most important to strength, doesn't keep them in the gym for hours on end, and doesn't wear them out whey they participate in athletics. Due to this, NEETs on /fit/ may benefit from a little extra programming. Add a couple more supplemental lifts if you think you need them, but don't make a laundry list routine. Even with a low-volume plan like SS, serious beginner deficiencies will iron themselves out with careful focus on form.

>and that aesthetics aren't important

It is a routine dedicated to building functional strength for athletics, not aesthetics. If aesthetics are important, maybe SS isn't the right program for you.

ICF is a meme routine made by a walking joke, but you have no excuse to not know what SS is. Lurk more, you fucking monkey.

Even Arnold said aesthetics is based on a foundation of standard power lifts.

Do SS with accessories after the core lifts (who the fuck does accessories in the beginning?). Bis, tris, back extensions, calf raises, whatever. If I had to change SS it would be to add bent rows, but that's it. That only works for the type of person who does well with more work though.

>>127504

Lower the close grip bench to 1x20

Lower the workout B romanian dl to 1x8

Raise the reps on cable crunches to 3x25

At least… that's what I would say if your lifts weren't that terrible. You need to focus on form and technique exclusively and slow reps at low-mid weights at very high volume until you have that ironed out after a couple weeks. Make sure you're treating the light weights as if they were very heavy, maximal exertion, fully controlled. Spend other days as relaxed as possible working on your form in ultra-slow motion to do some deep form work. 5x a week, 2 of the relaxed ultra-slow work.

After that go with standard SS + 3 accessories. Bulk, add 1.5 lbs a week. Take a supplement regime. And don't forget the pull ups/chin ups. 9 hours of sleep.

Remove romanian deadlifts, you don't need them. Remove light shrugs, they're retarded
