How bad do I look? I've always been pretty broad-shouldered, but up until a couple years ago I was so out of shape I couldn't see any bicep at all when I flexed. Short version is I was dating a crazy bitch who thoroughly emasculated me when she got physically abusive, and I had no idea how to respond to it. I ended up physically tossing her out in the end, but I still felt so weak afterwards I decided to start seriously lifting so it wouldn't happen again.

I have a set of bowflex weights, I go through a long set of various lifts every couple days which generally take an hour, but it's low rep. I basically set a high number, lift until muscle failure, take like a minute of rest, then double whatever's left. Like, let's say my target is a set of 20, but I only make it to 12. After a minute I try again this time to reach 16. Beyond lifting the only other things I really do are pull ups, squats and hitting a punching bag. My "cardio" is just walking my dog for an hour every day.

As far as supplements, other than l-argenine and spinach it's all psychological. I look at a pin-up of Jana Defi while lifting, listen primarily to power metal and hold my arms above my head while stretching for a bit before lifting.

At current I'm only lifting 45lbs per arm as I've increased very gradually, but I'm about to go up to 50 per. …Thoughts? Advice? It's not really so much about appearance, I just want to safely get as strong as I possibly can.

How tall are you?

I'll tell you the same thing I tell everyone. Get enough protein, minimum of .6g/lb of bodyweight, up to double that for the fastest recovery and quicker weight loss. If you're trying to lose fat just avoid fast food, sweets and junk. Don't eat too much in one sitting and only eat until you're not hungry, don't until you're stuffed. If you follow those guidelines while lifting you will lose weight very quickly and easily even without cardio. Cardio is optional but recommended for your off days. Find a simple weight lifting program that works for you and stick to it. Stronglifts.com/5x5/ is great for beginners if only because it's extremely simple and easy to stick to. You only need three lifts a day to work your entire body. It worked for Reggie Parks and Arnold Swarzinigger, it'll work for you. Stick to that for a few months and I guarantee you will look and feel better then you ever have in your life, your confidence and mood will skyrocket and you'll have more motivation to continue than you thought possible. You will get addicted to lifting if you make consistent progress for a few months. Just remember to start very light so you can add weight every week and so your joints and tendons have time to catch up to your muscles. Good luck, may many gains come your way.

 No.121398

>>121397

Also once you've lost your extra fat you don't generally have to worry about how much you eat anymore as long as you keep lifting. You generally can never eat too much once you start building some muscle and actually using it almost every day as long as it's not all junk.

While I wouldn't mind losing weight and improving my aesthetics, I've never had any trouble getting dates, so that's not really my priority. I just want to get as strong as I can.

I was thinking about trying like 40 days of ketosis, but I can't seem to find a clear list of foods I can prepare and eat. Also the keto flu and the thought that I might lose strength for that period and get set back to a lower weight don't appeal to me.

 No.121429

>>121428

Surely the benefits of being at a healthy weight are grounds enough to tolerate a temporary decrease in strength. Also, if you want some great keto recipes look up Headbanger's Kitchen, also known around here as Keto Pajeet.

>Don't eat too much in one sitting

This is only good advice if you're undisciplined and just starting out. Eating all your calories and macros for the day in a single meal is extremely healthy.

>Also once you've lost your extra fat you don't generally have to worry about how much you eat anymore as long as you keep lifting.

What is this wizardry. Is this really true or are you bullshitting?

 No.121515

You should try drinking less than 4 bottles of beer per month for a year and see what happens.

 No.121517

>>121515

OP here, I actually don't drink practically any alcohol ever.

My diet is *mostly* not that bad, I'd say for every unhealthy meal I eat I have three healthy ones. It might be tomato soup with spinach, chicken and rice, oatmeal, steak and potatoes and then a pizza or a cheeseburger or something. I buy junk food, but most stuff like twinkies it actually takes me forever to eat. I like them as an occasional comfort food, movie night, etc, but I can get a box and watch it sit on the shelf for three months before I finish them, and that includes sharing a few.

My one solitary vice is soda. I don't think I'd ever want to completely give it up, and before you suggest it, I fucking hate tea and I fucking hate anything with artificial sweeteners. I drink a 2 liter bottle of soda every single day.

I did a week cutting it out and only drinking water and dropped like ten pounds, just to see if it was an addiction or if I wanted to if I could stop. I was fine. I do drink a lot more water now, though.

I'm sure even without the ketosis if I just went cold turkey on soda for a couple months I'd probably drop a ton of weight, but it's my one solitary vice. Well… aside from collecting video games. …And sex with mentally unstable women. But yeah, no drugs, no tobacco, no liquor. Well, barely any liquor.

 No.121522

>>121517

Have you tried flavoured water? I imagine it wouldn't be quite as bad for you.. Then again I don't think it's going to be terrible for you but it's certainly not going to be helping.. Try cutting down on it each day, have it as a treat maybe

 No.121525

>>121517

I am 140lbs at 5'11". We have nearly the exact same diet (yours might be better than mine) except for the soda. I almost exclusively drink water and milk. You really need to quit soda, it's poison. Pouring it down the sink is legitimately a better use for it than consumption. You enjoy it a lot, but remember that that's because food chemists engineered it in a way to keep you wanting more of it. You can have Stockholm Syndrome because it feels good to be their slave, or you can have the body that you would naturally have from your lifting and the rest of your diet. It would be so great, and the change would probably come fast. Try chewing minty gum immediately after meals to prevent the urge to drink.

You must be a skelly. I'm 5'11" 155 and I'm pretty lean.

I limit myself to one can of regular soda a day. I find diet soda far more addictive than the sugar stuff. a can/bottle of soda is satisfying but never seem to get enough when it comes to diet soda.

 No.121532

>>121528

I am indeed a skelly, I used to be 125lbs but I'm getting better. I was never a big soda drinker, but chips were pretty addicting for some time. You just need to not allow it in your house.

Unless you eat a truckload of hamburgers a day, no not really. Most bodybuilders eat a fuckton of food and a lot more calories than I guess you eat now. They're still relatively skinny.

Real life isn't a vore comic bro, humans weren't meant to eat like snakes.

If you want me to be honest you look gross.

Your arms are small IMO.

Eat on a caloric deficit, run 3 days a week and lift 3 days.

>run 3 days a week

someone new to fitness/cardio/not being fat should NOT be running often, if at all. biking or rowing would save your joints, burn more calories, and probably be more fun

Hey on that note is rucking a good alternative to running? Like loading up a pack and hiking around. I fucking hate running.

 No.129172

>>129170

The only thing rucking is good for, is training to ruck. At best you'd get some leg exercise in the same vein as squatting, but far less effective.

 No.129188

>>129170

In the military we were taught to pack heavy items at the bottom. Trust me on 20+ km ruck sacks carrying a weapon and such packing in that way is retarded (ie light on bottom).

 No.130050

>>129170

Hike vigorously and it will. When your knees hurt, stop hiking. When they stop hurting, start hiking again. The more you push yourself the more progress you'll make. Eat the same way you train (goku style) the more progress you'll make. That's all there is to it.

People ask "will X and Y work instead of W and Z?" and it will, but only if you approach it the same way W and Z FORCE you to. Hiking is easier so you want to do the easy shit. Squats are difficult so you avoid them. If you liked squats and approach hiking the same way or even tried harder, you'd make the same results. If you slowly trod through the woods, you will make the same results as slowly squating body weight or light weights over a long period of time. So you just have to push your body to fatigue as quickly and as often as possible for hiking to work, by either wearing a heavy heavy pack/weight vest on a short hike, or a mid-heavy pack/vest on a long one, but pushing your speed and muscle engagement (grab the ground with your feet and pull the earth behind you, leap forward with your calves, engage the core and entire upper body by manhandling the weight on your back/fighting the inertia and momentum it creates).

 No.130059

>>121434

Do not do this. This is one way you can get pregnant belly while not necessarily being fat.

>>123668

>>123670

Stair climbing is a good option if you have them. It's more intense than jogging, but easier on the joints and ligaments. That's important since you're fatty and all that weight will increase the risk of injury to them.

Do only a few minutes of cardio first then work your way up
