Race of the week Burgermeister ## Board Owner 11/03/14 (Mon) 21:39:33 bad2c6 No. 122
1982 Austrian Grand Prix. There is quite a bit to love about this race. This circuit was among the last of the great power circuits with heavily banked corners. As much as we might love it, it is gone today, replaced by the apathy-inducing disaster that was the A1-Ring, and later the Red Bull Ring. Andrea de Cesaris taking out his teammate Bruno Giacomelli at the start is among my favorite of de Crasheris' (R.I.P.) incidents. The Brabham team tried its strategy of pitting half way through the race with a half size fuel tank and more aggressive tire compounds in a quest for more raw pace. As per usual, the unreliability that tended to plague those cars struck again. The non-turbo cars had a fantastically close finish here, but you'll have to watch the race to see that.Elio de Angelis' win was the last one for which Colin Chapman famously threw his cap in the air, as he died not long afterwards

Great Race, and Great Race Choice. I wish Colin Chapman was still around to toss his hat in the air. Actually scratch that, that would be considered a hazardous safety violation which may cause severe injury to a driver! Safety Car! Safety Car!
