It is basically a modern iteration of Metamorphosis via Kafka and follows similar motifs:
>Degeneration
>Protagonist develops appetite for things that once disgusted them (rotten food for Gregor and physical and chemical pleasures for Saki)
>Rejection by family
>Injury (Gregor has an apple thrown at him which leads to injury)
>Protagonist is seen by society as something that must be removed
>Protagonist commits suicide

Personally, I think it should have been written as a seinen or a gekiga format and have multiple volumes and the addition of little details:
>Panels of her accommodation and contents: include an increasingly worn and tattered university prospectus to highlight aspiration which gets lost at the end, old photographs and sentimental belongings, as the story progresses she has less and less as she is forced to sell them
>Banal things: shopping- food becoming less affordable
>Social aspects: friends becoming increasingly concerned and alienated, show their perspective
>Case notes: at the final chapter have her meet up with a social worker and give the appearance she is making progress; also notes from school councillors (bullying)
>Aftermath: show a coroner typing up notes re injuries as well as X Rays and have them try to chase her identity and living relatives down to no avail
