Personally, I think it should have been written as a seinen or a gekiga format and have multiple volumes and the addition of little details:

The narration was fine though. They didn't show any of this (except the moment she looks in the mirror) to show the inevitability her slow descent to hell. Absolutely every character in the story abused her one way or another.
