For utility I like a little fixed-blade neck knife I have (forgot the brand), or an Opinel no. 7 if I feel like it. I don't really prefer the opinel because it feels weak compared to a fixed blade w/ fiberglass handle scales. For self defense push daggers are the way to go if you must have a knife… but pepper spray or a baton are safer for you.
