I think that they are essentially the same thing. The power process is the usage of effort towards some goal, dostoevsky's need to worship would involve the effort of worship. Both involve deeming some state to be desirable (acceptance of parents, peers, pedos, the state of being powerful, of being good and admirable). Working towards a goal and worshiping can in effect be the same thing; desiring a state of being wealthy or powerful (a goal) necessitates the valuing of that state (worship). Modern psychologists will identify this same need and label it "the human need for purpose": the idea that humans need a reason / justification to live, in order to live (makes sense)

I think that what goes wrong (specifically in modern / industrial society) is the lack of stimulation. If one is given parental love without having to earn it, it is meaningless. Easily accessible food is far from the natural hunt or harvesting of food. There is now a clear disconnect between where we exert our power / capability and what we want in life.

The caveman's thought process: I hunt so that we may eat

The salaryman's thought process: I toil away for 45+ hours a week in return for purchasing power which I can use to eat.

The process of life is now far less visceral, and less stimulating, there is no immediate existential need, so instead we have supplanted it with idolatrous wants such as material wealth, cultural capital, peer acceptance far beyond our needs, worship of our own ego, etc. I hope I got my point across, but i doubt I did with this autistic rambling
