And here we go, further refinement to my original idea into a "let's go all in" build, basically in return for 700 years or so debt (depending on the payment plans and further negotiations), I'm jumping in with a build that I'm going to use to build up just fast enough that I fuck over Maloris from the shadows.

I know you're probably sick to death of discussing Heroes, but I want to make sure I got the right idea about them from what I've put together from the CYOA and the comments in this thread.

The Gods are primarily interested in amassing followers in the world, with Heroes being one of the most direct and efficient ways of doing so. Having an ubermensch who carries out your will and is proof of your power helps garner followers. As valuable as these Heroes are to carrying out their will in the world each active Hero weakens a God so the gods try to get away with having as few Geroes as possible.

Every other active God in their world means more competition to gain followers and therefore the Gods are at odds with one another and seeking to undermine, and if they get enough of a foothold, eliminate the other Gods. While the creation of multiple Heroes could potentially let a God exert more direct influence in the world it leaves them vulnerable to direct attacks from their fellow divinities.

Then there are Demon Lords, in most cases Demon Lords are not direct competition for followers outside of possibly killing potential followers. In fact the presence of a Demon Lord and their monsters can cause humans to turn to Gods for protection from the possible threat. So a Demon Lord whose forces are manageable by the God's forces in their domain can actually be beneficial. With the added bonus that if the Hero can slay the Demon Lord the God and Hero both gain an immediate power boost.

The downside to that being a hero dying weakens the god's presence in the world for a minimum of 20 years and there's no guarantee that the hero they find will be as useful as the one they lost. As well as of course public backlash in the loss of a great protector for their followers. So going after a Demon Lord is a large gamble that presents immediate gain but long-term potential loss. Unless a God is 100% sure the Hero can kill the Demon Lord it's in the God's best interest to mitigate the problem rather than go for the risk of eliminating it.

Heroes also won't gang up on Demon Lords due to the Gods wanting each other's followers. I figured that the power boost from a slain Demon Lord isn't as important to the God as much as the publicity of "Hey, my hero got rid of this bad dude, you should worship me and not those other guys". Unless of course you plan on going the full genocide route or breaking the technological stranglehold the Gods have on this planet.

In summation while the Heroes are a sort of looming Sword of Damocles unless you do something to severely upset a god, threaten their follower base more than their forces can comfortably manage, start mass genocide or being a technological revolution they aren't a pressing issue. Something to keep in mind when taking action but not an immediate or constant threat.

That's more or less correct, though a god can choose to wait 20 years after summoning a hero before they send that hero. If they do that, then they can instantly replace their hero as soon as they die, but the defeat of a hero is still an embarrassment that will be made known to the public.

That doesn't always stop the gods from using their heroes. Eventually you will be detected. When you're detected you can expect a god or two to test the waters to see if you're an easy target. If you survive and it becomes clear that you're not an easy target the attacks will slow down.

Since the gods are not unified and have taken radically different ideologies there is infighting between their followers. That infighting extends to their heroes. When a god decides that it's time to gamble and send their hero into a risky battle they'll have to decide between sending their hero to battle against the followers of other gods, the demon lord of Gadresh, or you. If you're minding your own business, you'll be low on the priority list and you’ll only see a small fraction of the gods full war potential.

Everything gets better over time. In a few thousand years you'll have godlike power and will be able to do almost anything. The limitations that are imposed on your starting powers (like shapeshifting) will eventually be surpassed in a few hundred years. In the far future you could hide your mutations no matter how many you have.

I first establish a base up in the north. As north and as cold as possible. Use earth magic and removal to carve out the multi levelled dungeon. Use servants to help me with it later.

I will roam the lands with a witch and a Succubus waifu (both respawning ones) to gather money and resources for my home base. The wandering sage with his helpers.

So I can learn about magic in Edeomea, and the state of things. Dropping stuff at home every once in a while. Raising as little suspition as possible.

In a few years I will have hundreds of servants, a lesser demon core and a lich, so when i find a corpse during my travels, he can make free undead monsters for me (bears, boars, whatever).

I will try t lay low and gain power through learning. In the meantime the dwarves can build their own brewery, the elves their own forest and the enchanters get some book I get during my travels.

So all in all I can be somewhat of a good guy while gaining power and preparing for the heroes to arrive (for anything else will die in the white wastes, where the skeleton warriors wait under the snow.

If I get the chance i even rescue magic active children from maloris to Edeomea.

Tier 1: Poltergeist - Cannot be injured, can go throught even warded walls, cannot communicate even throught telepathy, very basic sentience and cannot be detected even with Magical Eye. Can only exert a gentle push but hey, what if you want a lamp to fall on hay or an enemy to trip when charging at you?

Tier 2: Golden Sentinel - The default is made of gold, but it can be made of any material with your interference. It has an humoid form and 4 strength. Basially a sentient golem in human shape. Cannot talk and is very greedy, always hoarding whatever material it is made of. Can only be healed by absorving whatever it is made off.

Tier 3: Darkling - Calling those things "plant people" is a double mistake, they are not plant much less people. A mix of what seems mushrooms and pumpkins, those things come in many forms and stats and can reproduce fast. Parasitic in nature.

Tier 4 Biomechanical Manfucker - "It doesn't think. It doesn't feel.

It doesn't laugh or cry. All it does from dusk till dawn Is make the soldiers die." Has 1 tire, 1 big Magical eye, and 2 arms with sickles.

Tier 5: Brain Slug - Put it in someone's eye and they will dig their way to the brain. Not even demigods will resist this creature, it will bring them permanently into your control. (Reminder gods will simply take their fragment back from heroes, greatly reducing their stats) Get 3 per summon.

Guardian: Giant Poltergeist??? While a poltergeist can only exerce a gentle push, this entity can crush heads of normal men. It has 1km effective range and moves very slownly at 1meter/hour. It has no demands, it takes no space, and it cannot be injured.

I also recommend adding Star Vampire as an Abyss creature… or separate Abyss into Eldrich and Dark Arcana(corruption).

That’s right. When you create a minion it's normally sterile. Of your tier 1 to 4 minions orcs and goblins are the only exceptions. I tried to make most of the minions unique and have a purpose. The creation of vast rampaging hordes is the purpose of orcs and goblins. The stats of orcs in general are lower than most of the other tier 2 minions. So, if a demon lord was trying to lay low they would be better served by the other monsters. Orcs are for demon lords who want to wage a war of open aggression against a country by raising a vast horde. I think it’s OK for servants to be fertile since their stats are so low. That’s not really a balance issue, and long-lived races reproduce extremely slowly. Any offspring they have would have free will and not gain sustenance from your demon core though.

Yes, there are orc women.

Since your tier 1 to 4 minions can’t reproduce, your lizardmen do not lay eggs. Slimes only have one core. Any slime that disconnects from this core does not become another slime.

Most of the minions would range from below average to slightly above average intelligence (when compared to humans). If I were to assign an IQ value to them, almost all of them would fall into the 70-110 range. So, they can improve their tactics and learn to some extent, but it would take more effort to teach the minions on the lower end of the spectrum (like ogres and minotaurs). There are a few minions that are outside of the 70-110 IQ range. Adamantine golems can only carry out very simple orders. Plaguebearers, fairy queens, and witches are highly intelligent. Sphinx, liches, and demon scholars have genius-level intelligence.

Most creatures feel nothing at all in the presence of your core. Only the hero can sense your core, and that sensation does not feel like fear.

A wraith can kill an adventurer with 4 resistance and 4 health in one second of contact. It would take about 8 seconds for a wraith to kill a top-ranking adventurer with 7 magic resistance and 7 health. Two wraiths could kill a top-ranking adventurer in 4 seconds if they worked together. It would take over a minute for a single wraith to kill a hero like Magnus with 10 magic resistance and 12 health.

Elrineth is an archdevil and is part of the demon faction. Just consider “devil” to be a race within the demon faction, and "archdevil" is a title that he has earned.

They do need to be aware of the true content of the contract for contract magic to work, and you can’t mind control them to force them to accept the contract against their will. You can threaten them into accepting the contract though.

I’ve posted this thing in numerous places and received hundreds of questions. If I put all those answers into the CYOA it would become so bloated that most people would TLDR it. I do intend to add the answer to most of the questions that you asked to the CYOA when I get around to updating it. The struggle is to keep everything concise so that people will actually read it. Damn look at all those walls about how damage ,defence and meat works. Just say that 2 squares = a healthy men. Thus 4 squares = 2 healthy men and that it takes items/enchants into account - put the item bonuses in blue if you must. Sure a giant monster will be more, but fuck it, godly legendary magical shit and Weight/size are a stat by themselfs.

And remove that Save point from the pirate girl.

Scying is worthless as my DC is on the pocket plane, locked in a safe, protected by only I know what. Illusion is redundant thanks to my minions. Regeneration is useless, the hero can 1 shot me and I already regen fast and respawn. My only regret is not getting Shapeshift, I imagine those gills are uncomfortable.

DPU Generation: Automatic and Death (3 debt). Using my Guardian to capture someone, and killing him multiple times. She can also cause ship wrecks. The only problem is that 10km are nothing.

Minions: Picking Abyss.

Plaguebearer: Abyss Scouts and spies. Make the respawnable to not lose info if they get intercepted.

Tentacle Horror: Abyss Main combat unit for the Location i'm picking. They seem weak, tho.

Skinwalker: Nature Demon Thot said she needs them to jew.

Succubus: Demon Demon Thot said she needs them to jew, they can work and fight too in theory.

Witch: Abyss Vital for the portals.

Shadow fiend: Abyss I honestly haven nothing else really usefull to buy.

Strangler: Arcane Seems like a waste, but Demon Thot said she needs them to jew. Not worth it. I'm sure a Shadown Fiend at night or a Succubus/Skinwalker with planning can do just as good.

I want to fuck those Angels, shame they can't get pregnant, gonna get them after the Enchanter and train as bodyguards. Anyway to make those Fallen Angels fertile, OP?

Servants:

Dorf, Danuki Kike and Demon Thot. Build Fort, trade and crash economy, scheme. I will later get a Spirit Enchanter to get a me a anti-hero Warpick.

Guardian: Yoko is hands down the best. She is the very most useful, and the least demanding. In fact, she will try to be nice with me so I destroy her world. She is worth those 4 Global Points. This Dargoth "The Edgy" needs some discipline, and to keep the fuck away from my Yoko.

Location: Batrela. Yoko will use illusion to mask the island as a bunch of spiky rocks, and also lure sailors to their death - either many times by my hand, or at my Tantacle Horrors as they crash in a rock, fuelling my DC.

Also a good point for my Danuki Kikes to get to work, and but the shit my dwarves need if there's anything we can't craft. Buying me a nice legendary weapon would be nice too, as my plan is to use superior speed to dogde then stab my enemies in the back of their heads/necks.

Yoko is very important and will remmain close at all times, but the kid can go and become a pirate if he knows how to keep his mouth shut.

Demon Thots with help of minions will enslave the Pirat Lords via debt and their men via propaganda. Likewise in every other area, sowing communism in Omeron, atheism in Maloris and racial tension (beast vs elf vs men) in Edeomea.

I'd like to meet the Demon Lady to learn of her plans and lie that I will stay out of her way, and to ask where the fuck she got her Shadow Dragons and what do they do.

Most heroes can be assassinated by me if I have the element of surprise - and I damn well should with all of those jewy minion. The Cheat is the only tricky one as I will need lots of planning to catch that pirate roastie on 1st of January, as putting her in a dungeon seems fucking hard with that strength and all.

Once my kikies are all in place and all heroes deat with, I signal the Demon Lady to finish the job in Gadresh while I will start massive atheism propaganda, aided by technological revolution (with easy times, they won't turn to the gods). The gods will have no worshipper in here and thus no power. They will likely come back much later, with an army of another dimension, but by them me and my queens will be prepared.

Minions lack free will and have to obey your orders, but only while in a normal state of mind. If they are so afraid that they can’t even think then they can’t process your orders in the moment and may temporarily go against your orders and flee. In that case it's not that they are directly going against what they know they need to do, it's that they are so afraid that they can't even understand what they need to do in the moment. If they are not panicked to that extent, then they would be forced to go against the hero whether they want to or not. If they are so panicked that they temporarily ignore your orders, then they would be forced to carry out your orders again the moment they calm down enough to regain the capacity for logical thought.

I'm really enjoying this CYOA so far. Its not often that I pour hours into a build thinking about things that extend well beyond the scope of the CYOA. With that said if you are taking suggestions one idea I had was for another minion type. The Corrupted. Unlike the Fallen where they turned to the demon lords to survive the corrupted willingly did so in exchange for power. Tier 1 you have the Cultists who turned after being exposed to corrupting magical from the rituals they performed. Stat wise they may be weaker physically but have an emphasis on magic and for their appearance they could possibly pass as normal humans since only their souls have been tainted but can't sustain social contact for long as their madness and insanity would give them away. Tier 2 or tier 3 I was thinking maybe a Dark Knight, basically a corrupted paladin who turned their back on their original gods in pursuit of power. They would use dark magic in place of holy magic and would have combat skills more focused on killing people. For the core guardian I don't have a really good idea but someone with a yandere personality would seem to fit. They would be willing to please you by following your commands but is also just as likely to go against them if they believe it isn't in the best interest of you or your demon core regardless if you believe it is or not. At the same time they may do something that you don't wont them to do because they believe it is in your best.

That's all the ideas I had for minions right know. Though I would add that there should be more powers and items in the creation section. You're tied to a powerful life form that directly provides you with energy. You should be able to do things that no mortal or hero would be able to do. So having more varied magic and powers as well as items to create would be nice. I know you gain more stuff with time but additional starting powers wouldn't hurt. For instance along with elemental magic maybe have something like arcane or evocation magic, something that directly projects magical energy in a harmful form but has little other uses outside combat.

Any way that was just my two cents. Like I said I've really enjoyed this one so far.

They have to be capable of understanding the terms of the contract. If they are, then accepting the contract with a paw print or a symbol would be fine. If somebody uses a fake name then they did not really accept the contract and you'll be able to immediately tell that they're faking it. You have a sense for whether or not the magic was successful.

Just a little math for everyone who is crying about the difficulty of the game:

Let's say, you dig deep within the earth under one of the bigger cities of Maloris. Sure, you will have to leave in 17 years (maybe 16 if you want to be safe). In that time no one can detect your demon core, and the gods dont care so far.

You dont even take any global points, just insubordination, because you can pretty much counter it with contract magic.

You take emotion and life.

Lets say the average dude has 2 on the scale of 1-10 on avg. in emotions. That is 4 dpu per person per hour. Let's say you can gather from 8k people (and that is entirely possible according to what the creator said about populations and pop densities in this world.)

Now you wait for 16 years under the city, 100 meters deep, probably even dig an escape tunnel for emergencies.

You can build a civilization anywhere else. After 16 year, you just run, and never look back.

Go and live under the earth at the middle of nowhere with a small village above you.

Now lets see what you gather in just 16 years:

(2+2)*8000*24*365*16

4.485.120.000 DPU

Lets say you spend a lot on regenerating tier 4 bros.

that is 80 regenerating minion. Coming back after each and every heroes if you treat them right.

Plus 2800 dwarf/druid elf/spirit enchanter to create the perfect deathtrap ever imagined. Plus5.120.000 DPU on other stuff like alarms, interference crystals and succubus catgirls to fuck each night.

After 16 years.

If you don't do shit, the gods wont even know you exist.

Your biggest problem is that you should not be a dick with your minions.
