Anything that doesn't properly explain why YOU are being CHANGED into whatever you are creating. I have absolutely no interest in creating some RPG character for a game that will never be played. CYOAs are about choosing YOUR OWN adventure, putting yourself into a situation you will probably never be in and then imagining the results. In order for that to work the character at the end has to be me. It's not enough to simply say that it's me either. A number of CYOAs are written from the perspective of a narrator asking "what are you/can you do/do you have" etc. Unless there is a clearly defined event where those things could have changed from what they are now I can't pick options that don't describe me as I am now and expect the character to be me.
