I'll nvr stop. In other news on Friday PST the proceeds of my bandcamp revenue will go to trans rights advocacy groups. Which is the most cyberpunk thing I could be a part of. Please consider donating by buying anything…I'll keep pushing free swag to this board 4evr though. Perhaps 8ch.net/cyber needs their own JK/47 album….yall amazing.

>cyberpunk

 No.47449

>>47438

I'd say transhumanism is cyberpunk, and a lot of transhumanists see transgender rights as a sort of prototype or first step towards transhumanist rights. Not sure I personally agree but it's not too much of a stretch.

 No.47459

>>47449

If you actually read Cyberpunk literature, it's filled with trans characters. Gibson's first major short story, Johnny Mnemonic had the 'dog sisters', where the Johnny couldn't remember which one was originally a boy. In Ghost in the Shell, the characters regularly 'body swap' with alternate-sex shells, as a sort of fetish-club kink.

Cyberpunk is about questioning how far technology can stretch human nature. Trans is just low-hanging fruit when you want to talk about how technology, used on people, could make the straight society uncomfortable.

If you can't wrap your head around someone wanting to turn from a man to a woman, how the hell are you supposed to comprehend a man turning himself into a cloud of nano-machines?

Agree. I was surprised how much resistance my identical thread got on r/cyberpunk. I felt this particular current event was a continuation of Dick and Gibson being prophetic. And I always come here to shill my tunes anyway…but there were some pretty closed-minded things lighting up my threads this week. Weird.

 No.47464

>>47463

This is where Cyberpunk-as-aesthetic meets actual cyberpunk ideology.

Race, gender, etc … that's all meatspace problems. Problems we can solve with tech.

Once we can live forever, religion will be out of the equation. Who wants to fantasize about heaven when they live an eternity in an infinitely malleable world already? Why settle for being a saved-soul, when you can be a god?

These are the big questions Cyberpunk is supposed to make you ask, and try to answer. Somewhere along the line, people lost sight of that.

 No.47471

>>47449

I don't. Bodybuilding is a closer step towards transhumanism. Transgenders are just as homo sapiens before as after, whereas bodybuilders and those with prosthetics may extend their abilities beyond what is humanly possible without such augmentation. Hence, transhumanism.

That said, being transgender or having a less strictly male/female identity is a nonissue in a posthuman society. Probably why it attracts them.

I have no real personal issue with transgenders. You do you. Don't be an asshole though. Lots of feminists have a bigtime problem with that.

 No.47472

>>47471

I would say that because humans can't, traditionally, change their sex the human condition is limited. Doing so is, in it's self, beyond what is naturally humanly possible.

Simply being a male/female hybrid after the process doesn't make you less human, but the process its self is not a natural human thing to do.

 No.47473

>>47472

What is a "natural" human thing to do? Are tattoos not a natural human thing to do? Scarification? Surgically altering ones genitals?

Our current sexual reassignment therapies does not change the sex of the person, it merely alters their physical appearance to a degree that is hopefully close enough to alleviate dysphoria.

 No.47474

>>47473

Good point, it's not a genetic change or anything. However, hormone therapy gets you a little closer to that.

At any rate, I tend to think of where we are as the stone ages of what people with Dysphoria will be doing in 20 years.

 No.47475

>>47459

when I said 'Not sure I personally agree' I meant transgender being related directly to transhumanism. I have no problem with trans people at all, I'm all for personal freedom. I just think it's still very much human, just sticking the opposite gendered characteristics onto a body to mimic it as close as possible. Now if it were possible to actually genetically change from xx to xy or vice versa somehow then it would be interesting, but for now even the most successful transitions still don't cut it for me as being anything transhuman at all. Again, not attacking trans people at all I'm talking purely about the relationship to transhumanism.

 No.47476

>>47474

>20 years

I don't think so. Think on the order of centuries, if we don't devolve into some post-apoc society (sans the apocalyse) by then. I get the feeling we're going to fizzle out.

 No.47477

>>47476

I tend to think we'll see all these new tools, like AI, start to really enhance what mankind is capable of. Both good and bad. It'll be like this, just amplified.

 No.47478

>>47477

Maybe suicide isn't such a bad option.

 No.47492

>>47463

Well the problem with it isn't so much people dislike trans people, it's just that the modern approach for gender change isn't helpful at all. Specifically for MtF the "vagina" is nothing more than a wound that the body actively tries to repair. Especially since it's not reversible some trans find themselves hating and regretting the change. Though I feel the only way to combat this is to donate to research. As of right now though, I find it's just best to get them counseling, because some truly just are mentally ill. However I don't find an issue with your donation, just trying to clarify why some might immediately be hostile when they hear "trans". Just clarification is all. Sage because off-topic.

 No.47495

>>47492

So the identical thread on r/cyberpunk actually had trans hatespeak…which seemed harsh to me, and in some ways, un-cyberpunk/futurist…But all kinds of people like cyberstuff…but then other people got really hostile toward that poster and the flame war escalated. Also - All of your points are valid. Every one. For me a psychotherapist (who writes electronic music as a hobby), I was encouraged at the chance to have partner revenue from doing what I love support a non-profit advocacy group that has research and legal components to ilitigate and protect the rights of a disenfranchised group. Their website outlines their cannon- https://transgenderlawcenter.org/about

it's not a slush fund for financing trans surgeries as far as I can tell- that would have been too much. just a place to ensure constitutional rights of minorities underrepresented in our country. I'm not particularly passionate about the cause, nor do I even fully know where I stand. I just saw some parallels between the current debate about equality for trans people and the seminal transhumaninist themes in cyberpunk literature. It seems insincere to compare gender dysphoric people to replicants or something but cyberpunk literature does have themes of inequity. That made the post seem salient…plus my biggest supporters lurk these threads.
