Why is there a cyber genocide?

lainchan cyb was shut down. It was the best (if slowest) cyb communities.

jinteki.industries also dead

Everything seems to be dead except this board, which is being overrun with "hello, fellow cyberpunkers, how can I act more cyberpunk in real life" crap posts.

Is cyberpunk dead for real now?

 No.43627

If you're implying that it's some sort of cointelpro sliding bullshit, then I don't think they're doing a very good job

Five shit threads isn't exactly enough to kill the board, in fact given how slow this place is it's probably a net positive

But why did jinteki shut down? Was there any given reason or did it just go down the memory hole?

Months. Jinteki Industries prides itself on state-of-the-art technology and 99.9999%* uptime.

>>43625

>>43628

I'll be honest, the only reason Jinteki is down is that the server that [REDACTED] was hosting for me while I was overseas got taken down. My primary server died, and the other one is too noisy, hot, and power-hungry. I was going to buy a new one, but my car died as well, so I'm a little low on funds. I'll probably buy something soon and bring it all back up.

If you see any nice deals on dual-socket hex-core Dell PE R710s with at least 48gb RAM, post in the main thread and I'll take them into consideration. High-end Fujitsu and IBM boxen are also welcome.

I haven't been totally inactive though, I sent Kalyx an offer for lainchan when he put it up for sale. He disrespected Jinteki Industries by requesting that CTO Akitaro Watanabe commit ritual suicide. For the sake of transparency, the official offer is attached.

Because it's a niche subculture. Not everyone will be interested.

It's not "dying" so much as we (society) moved on.

Lainchan's /cyb/ just seems more distributed. All the sub-forums have a cyber overtone. Just check out /mega/ so it's not so divided.

So /cyber/, Akitaro here again. I've got some good news and some bad news.

The bad news is that I lost the ebay auction I was bidding on, two Dell blade enclosures with 16 servers each. Total of 1.5tb RAM and 384 cores. Would have split the hardware and the cost evenly with a coworker, but the price got away. It's probably for the better, since I would have needed to wire my apartment for 220v, and I don't think my landlord would have been happy. Would have been fun as fuck to tinker with, though.

The good news is that I found another server lying around in my apartment, an old one that I'd quite forgotten about. Actually the first one I ever owned. It's a few generations newer than my current boxes, but lightly specced. It's a tower (Poweredge T110), so I'd kinda set it aside and forgotten about it when I got my rack. It doesn't have much in the way of redundancy, but it'll serve perfectly well for standing up a new host for now. I'm planning to work on it this evening. I think there were some memory issued I needed to address, but I've built up such a supply of odd parts that I should be able to dig some up.

With luck, Jinteki Industries will be back online today.

All of that said: I've neglected the site badly. What sort of things would you like to see added or changed? Any alternation to organization? I know there were a bunch of good ideas in the proper Jinteki thread that I never got around to putting in.

Bad news, unfortunately. I've been hacking away at hardware for the past hour, and by all appearances, the server died in its sleep. The one time I got a diagnostic code, it was dead motherboard. After that, it wouldn't even fully power, much less post.

There is some positive news though, apparently the previous temp host simply switched nameservers, instead of killing the site. I'm trying to get more info so I can update DNS records.

On top of that, the normal hardware hunt goes on.

As condolences, have what I'm pretty sure is the first actual picture of me that I've posted on this board.

Akitaro Watanabe, CTO of Jinteki Industries, would like to present the following message:

Unfortunately, negotiations with various vendors have broken down after a translator referred to them as "filthy hook-nosed kikes" in an internal email that was not intended for public viewing. We regret this deeply, and this translator has committed sudoku.

The network engineers and system administrators of Jinteki Industries have been tirelessly working with the engineers of Sheng Ltd. to devise a solution to the current hardware shortage that has left 2/3rds of the Jinteki Datacenter unusable. New top-quality hardware has been contracted, purchased, and installed, and is being imaged and stood up at this very moment. The new installation uses state-of-the-art best practices. Please see the attached image for reference.

We expect all Jinteki services to be fully functional in the next hour. Thank you for your patience.

Now that's a name I haven't heard in a while! I think it's been a year since I last even visited that little circlejerk. How time flies.

Anyway, if you want it in excruciating detail, here's why the site went down, even though I think I've explained most of this:

It was running off an old HP DL380 G5 at the time, a direct upgrade from the PE1950 it originally ran on when I moved hosting from neocities. One of the PPM modules on the mainboard blew. G5 and earlier are hot-running, power-hungry fuckers, so rather than spend $40 on the exact model replacement I needed, I figured I'd buy a new server. Unfortunately, this happened a week before I fucked off to foreign lands for a few months, so I didn't have the time. I outsourced the hosting to a buddy who had a VPS through another buddy (hence the redirect to unsafe.space for a while). At some point, the 3rd party changed nameservers and shut the site down for reasons yet unknown.

When I got back, I was busy catching up on reality and bills, so everything got delayed. The RasPi was deployed just so the site would actually be up. I've finally finished shopping (and gave up on my dreams of a blade chassis, can't run 220v to my rack), and a high-spec Poweredge 810 is on its way. I'll swap out the 2 octocores for 4 decacores in a few paychecks.

Barring any severe issues, migration will be done sometime next week. Downtime will happen as I rearrange the rack, move out the old servers, set up new switches and a second router, but after that, we should be good for the forseeable future.
