Why does society like to use young people as the scapegoat for all human problems?
This isnt just some Boomer vs Millennial thing. Its been like this for centuries. But now, the adults have gone full schizophrenic. Almost all the things that teens are blamed for are things I see with older people.
Obesity? I see many men over 40 with a gut belly. Yet theyre not criticized. Its the grade schoolers with a gut belly that are targeted. Many high schoolers are skinny little twigs.
Academic devolution? Most of the older folks if pressed about physics or social studies will err. But, it's the young that are blamed.
Sexual immorality? Many kids nowadays are blue-balled celibates. Even if they got laid, it'll be forever before they smash again. The only thing they got is good porn. Its the older adults that are letting loose. But once again, its always the teenagers fault.
Bitchy personalities? Many Generation X/ early Millennials are jocks that get quarrelsome with each other, bitch about how their favorite brand of cigarettes dint sell anymore, or bitch about schoolkids not knowing who Nirvana is.
Oh! By the way, a lot of these older guys voted for Trump, a hypersensitive jock who resembles the "Millennials" they hate. Ironic, eh?
But, we all know its the kids fault, right?

Tbh, the worst stuff is the stuff that's accepted imo. Like, unchallenged - nobody's going to just let "young people are stupid" slide when the net education of generations usually rises demonstrably. But how about gun stuff?
People over 21 committed almost all of the deadliest mass shootings in America - a boomer just a year or two ago did the deadliest in our history, preceded by the next deadliest (a 28-or-29-year-old American-born Muslim extremist). Even school shootings see a disproportionate amount of legal adults and 20-pluses committing them. So what do the nutjobs in Florida do? They try to set the gun buying age at 21, and I have yet to hear anybody else point out how wrong this is. Personally, I'd feel safer if we capped it at 18 and didn't let anyone older than that own a gun.
People also have a warped idea of what "youth" is. Economics, consumerism, and insecurity with aging have contributed to this - inflation means fewer young people affording houses and necessities, the recession meant fewer young people working for that period. Slowing birth rates led to companies (toy cos, cereal cos, Disney, etc.) being for want of a market - actual children are dumbfucks who will buy anything, so the next best thing was to market to millennials (and later gen. z) and try to make them buy/identify more like children. And, of course, landowning boomers/gen Xers don't like feeling old while more young people grow to legal validity - so 40-somethings and 60-somethings will join in eagerness for arbitrarily delaying "rites of passage."

I can't fucking believe that even the shittiest Boomer would talk about kids being sexually immoral. The 60's and 70's were the years of free love. Child porn was legal. Screwing animals was legal. Thanks to multimedia, kids are becoming more worldly. Adolescence was invented in the 1940s, as reparation for Great Depression child labor and World War 2. It was to accommodate the suburbia family life and allowance for higher education.
Of course, all good things come to an end. My opinion, adolescence is being kept to spite the young. To keep them from advancing and outdoing their elders. Alot of the grouchy old men who claim that "kids these days are bitches" are ironically very adolescent. Its interesting to know that since 2009, there has been a social epidemic of cultural nostalgia plaguing the West. Hence reboots, remakes, and retro music. Nostalgia is now hitting people earlier. Now, we have the obnoxious 90s kids (born 1980-92) bitching about how post-2003 Nick/Cartoon Network shows are "shitty", "90s for the win". A lot of the cartoon shows fron the 90s was cheesy and weird, a precursor to the psychedelic and zany shows like Uncle Grandpa, Adventure Time, and Chowder.
