It looks like it'll at least have a cool beginning fight with underminer but other than that, it looks like a retread of the first movie but with the roles reversed. I wouldn't mind Elastigirl as the lead if it wasn't at the expense of the other characters. I thought they learned this lesson to work as a family from the first movie but that seems tossed out. >It's like the first movie with reversed roles
Based off of trailer it's worse than that. It feels like a sitcom episode with barely connected plats A and B that only come together at the very end. First movie had that going too, but both plots connected after first 15 to 20 minutes.
Another unsettling thing is that it looks like movie will use "being a mom is the most difficult job in the world, while men have it easy in profesional world." Mr Incredible looks like a madman and barely keeps up with home chores, while Elastigirl effortlessly fights crime and is a celebrity. All of that will be peppered by "hilarious" slapstick with Jack Jack. They will surely have classics like Mr. Incredible getting hit in the face by carrot puree, and JackJack hitting him in the balls.

This just seems like an inverse of the previous movies premise. You know? Superheroing is illegal or bad in some way. One of the parents makes it big in some way, while the other sits on their ass till shit hits the fan and then the whole family gets dragged along. It feels like it's setting up the exact same formula.
This is going to be underwhelming reguardless. The wow factor the previous movie had is gone. So simply doing the same plot with some flip flopping of certain specifics won't really hit the same buttons. Also the villain probably won't be as good I can already tell.

bullfucking shit! Helen's being a mom ended less than halfway through the movie when she went to go save Mr. Incredible. She also tried to leave the kids to do it, not proudly home so he could do what he wanted
No.1002977
Just came back from seeing it and man, you might think that calling it "the first movie with the roles reversed" is stretching it but it's not. EVERYTHING in this movie is basically a pastiche of what happened in the first one, right down to the Screenslaver having the same basic motivation as Syndrome (superheroes make people complacent and too reliant on them to do everything). Violet's entire arc is basically trying to get the attention of the guy she likes (didn't we already go through this shit in the first one?), Dash might as well not have any character whatsoever and Jack Jack is a walking plot device. Mr. Incredible seems to have lost a few IQ points since the first movie since I don't recall him being nearly this stupid. There's the obligatory feminist talking points inserted here and there which are just as irritating as you might imagine.
The actual plot is dumb as fuck and Screenslaver's final plan is so idiotic and full of holes that I genuinely wondered if anyone proofread the script before beginning the animation process. This is basically The Force Awakens all over again, a safe, bland, utterly lifeless version of the original film repackaged to play on people's nostalgia. To rub the salt in the wound, people actually started clapping after it finished in the theater I was in, which pretty much made me lose all hope for humanity.

Before she can alert anyone to this, Winston's sister Evelyn Deavor overpowers her and brainwashes her with a similar pair. Evelyn reveals herself to be the mastermind behind the Screenslaver – seeing supers as a threat to humanity's independence, she sought to undermine her brother's mission, and plans to brainwash the world's leaders so that they cannot re-legalize superheroes. Evelyn then manages to lure Bob and Lucius into a trap, brainwashing both.
>Avoiding the same fate as their parents, Dash, Violet, and Jack-Jack, whom Edna had outfitted with a super-suit, sneak aboard the Deavor's ship to rescue their parents, as the world leaders meet for a hearing on supers. After freeing their parents and Lucius, the group reveal Evelyn's plan to the assembled leaders. A battle on the boat ensues, threatening to crash the ship into New Urbrem. However, the group manage to stop it, while Helen apprehends Evelyn when she tries to make an escape. Following the incident, the Supers Relocation Program is reinstated in response to the group's heroism, making supers legal once again.
The reason this is fucking dumb is because super villainy still exists. Without Supers who would have stopped Underminer at the start of the movie? It was a guy with a huge fucking drill. Humanity wouldn't be more "independent" because there aren't any legal supers to help them stop insane inventors and other idiots with super powers. Unless she's on some Senator Armstrong shit and believes that there should be no law enforcement at all and everyone in the world should have to fight for survival, I don't see how this plan makes any fucking sense.
The damned woman invented hypnotizing technology that can be used on any screen in the world and she thinks Supers are a threat to independence? She is literally the exact kind of thing that Supers exist to stop!

I appreciated the message of perception being the most important part of politics, but the movie just felt cobbled together out of different disparate scene ideas. I felt that it relied too much on cliches and the few consistent themes felt weak. Other than that, I think the movie had good animation and action, I think some of the physical and even some of the spoken gags worked well enough. It just felt, as noted, rather weightless.

There were two elegant solutions I saw proposed for the problem of supervillains during the superhero ban
1: There's no clear indication that supervillains even existed before Syndrome and all the supers fought mundane criminals. There simply aren't supervillains in the Incredibles verse (or they are rare).
2: The good publicity villains dealt with the crazy ones behind the scenes so nobody gave a reason to unban supers. A prequel with a supervillain who realizes he likes fighting crime practically writes itself under this idea.
Instead they went with the least nonsensical and most boring option.

But Senator Armstrong wanted to free the people from being slaves to the media, corporations and (((PMCs))), so he would create a state of perpetual warfare where only camaraderie and nationalism would prevail, or in death, passing on that meme to Raiden and forcing him to spread it through his actions. Her plan is making holes all over. Wouldn't it have been better to just like brainwash as many people as possible into not being evil and not killing each other? Wouldn't that have eradicated the need for superheroes in general?

It's certainly not a bad movie, but it wasn't as good as the first one. Definitely a "see once", but not a "buy and watch over and over" like the first one.
It bothered me that the whole movie takes place within one month of the end of the first movie, but nobody mentioned or needed to work through the events of the first movie. Also, the villain was a pretty weak character, which hurts the movie as a whole. And the music was way less impactful this time around.
No.1003510

Echoing the other anon: it wasn't terrible, but it wasn't great. Not really worth re-watching ever.
It had less poz in it than I expected, but the villain was pretty lame and the movie was visibly struggling under the two competing plotlines (that being Bob learning how to rear children and Helen's far more interesting heroics).
The character development of the first movie was basically fucking obliterated, and the characterization was altered. As another anon mentioned, Bob seemed to have lost a few IQ points - he wasn't a super-genius in the first film, but in this sequel he does seem far less inventive and intelligent about taking out his foes than in the first.
The villain was lacklustre. Where Syndrome wanted to remove superheroes' importance by giving everyone supertech (DC? - and also killing them all), Screenslaver just wanted to make superheroes illegal forever (basically Marvel). Except where Syndrome was fun and colorful (despite wearing a monochrome costume), Screenslaver seemed like they belonged ~20-40 years in the setting's future. They're a villain whose motivations (the real ones, not their "lol just go outside and stop staring at TVs you morons" shit), modus operandi, and general shit about them, like using pawns and proxies, is far more fitting as an information age or late cold war villain than a 1960s era one.
It wasn't a terrible film, but it could have been a lot better had the writing been pulled off with more competence, and had there not been a massive 14 year gap where presumably anyone who knew where to take the story from the end of the first film left the company.

There were basically 2 1/2 movies crammed into one movie.
One was "Dad has to learn to be stay at home parent," which was great and fun.
Second was "Completely standard superhero plot" that was actually insulting to my intelligence. The only mystery in the movie was if it was both siblings or just one that was evil. It was so fucking predictable, after Elastigirl rescued the ambassador and marched into the dude's office, I thought she was actually going to call him on being Screenslaver since it was obviously someone high up in the company. The only redeeming thing about the entire elastigirl plotline was the Elasti-bike, which was pretty creative and fun.
The last 1/2 movie was at the end where the kids learn to work together as a team with the entire family, except there was absolutely no building on that during the movie, except for establishing that they couldn't at the beginning of the movie.

Just got out of the theatre.
Movie was a solid…
4.5 out of ten Pixar movie
6 out of ten animated movie
I'm being pretty generous too.
Definitely lost a lot of the charm of the original, felt a lot more like a generic kids movie(tm), and that's not just nostalgia. I even rewatched the Incredibles the night before I went to my screening to see how it compared.
The plot was pretty shitty, and that's all that can be said about it. The anachronisms were much more prevalent than the first film which probably detracted from the whole "charm" I mentioned earlier.
All in all, it just felt like somebody had just assumed the assets from the first film and slapped it on a second one. Which is quite literally what happened.
There's something to be said about the similarities between the design for the new supers and the designs of characters in like Wreck It Ralph (which is done by Walt Disney Animation, not Pixar).
Image because you're more likely to read this.

They honestly should have brought syndrome back as a character (which would play into his "I WILL GET YOUR SON")
Maybe some cool plot where he finally gets Jack Jack and realizes his ULTIMATE POTENTIAL, and uses him as a living battery or maybe some kind of "power resonator" which allows him to tap into the babies' abilities. Perhaps it could even be kinda "edgy" with Syndrome being extremely disfigured from the end of the first film and he has to walk around in a vader-style life support suit. I don't know, anything would have been better than introducing some random assholes.
Also, how don't they know that Jack Jack has powers? Didn't they see when Syndrome was flying up to the jet? Or was it never explicitly show them realizing so they thought they would make that a plot point in this film?

Honestly I wasn't really impressed with the villainess, new heroes, or the general plot of the movie.
Like at the end of the first Incredibles we get a bit of an implied teaser about Supers being accepted again, and immediately in the second film that gets entirely shut down within the first ten minutes just to give a bit of a rehashed plot with rich people supporting supers but not really (except for the brother), only this time with Elastigirl as the lead instead of Mr Incredible.
And in general it sort of felt like some of the new settings or visuals didn't fit all that well into the general world design the first Incredibles set, with tech being super-generic scifi instead of that sort of "classic" scifi the first movie had, making the movie feel like it wanted to be more in the 2010s as opposed to it's actual time.
Also Syndrome was a far better character than Screenslaver in presence alone, and the new heroes range from irritating (Voyd or however her name is spelled) to absolutely forgettable (literally everyone else since most of them had little to no lines nor moments that really set them up for some hype.)
