If there was a comics thread or an animation thread, like the one that gave birth to Truthseeker some time ago, I'd readily contribute, and I'm sure lots of people –even anons who don't usually draw– would as well; they just need the excuse. OC threads work as well, there's always some interesting stuff from anons who make webcomics or write DEEPEST LORE for their comic book settings.

I've tried creating such threads several times (with comic templates and whatnot, like pic related) but I keep getting strange errors.

I was thinking Marvel-tan and DC-tan had a Betty and Veronica thing going on With their current year versions being Riverdale-esque.

TTG-tan is basically an annoying Youtuber tween girl that is relentlessly pestering /co/, and DC-tan looks the other way because she gets a cut of TTG's profits.

>The older I get the more I feel the need to leave something behind that isn't just lewd or cute fanart.

What a feel.

I'm considering drawfagging a bit less in order to have more time to pursue more traditional and fundamental ways to art. I've spent the major part of my artistic life shitposting away and making autistic fetish porn, and feel I've ill-earned enough attention doing so.

 No.956924

>>956918

Brushing up on the fundamentals never hurts, you just gotta be careful you don't become an uncommitted artist who never finishes anything and spends all his time on studies trap I fell into at one point.

Also, I wouldn't worry to much about attention. I think that, if you do something you truly enjoy yourself, you'll find people who enjoy it. for the better or worse.

I personally got the attention but realized that my work garners a very specific kind of attention and none with lasting value. When I'm gone my art will most certainly fade to obscurity as is and be buried under the never ending amount of art like it. Though I appreciate the people who enjoy it, there's nothing lasting about it.

A good example of this is Sunibee. Dude was pretty god tier. I used to sit in on streams of him drawing and he'd whip together an entire page of solid artwork together in seconds. He always had these grand ideas for comics he never pursued and stories he never told and instead just drew lewd art all day and garnered a huge following, but as time marched on he fell off, his art degraded at the end due to the monotony of the subject matter, other artists of similar talent replaced him, most people grew to dislike him, and now he's getting more and more obscure. I still look back on his comic sketches he nuked years ago and think about how neat it would have been had he actually sat down and done them. I can only fap to a picture so many times before it becomes stale, but a comic or cartoon? I can watch that an endless amount of time given small breaks. Hell, Chris chan or the Mike and Melissa guy have more lasting appeal than most god tier lewd artists do.

There's no denying it. I'm having a great time drawfagging, which is why stopping it altogether would be a tough decision to make. Also, the ride never ends, but I've gotten used to that fact.

I remember poor Sunibee, I used to spot him often when he was drawfagging at halfchan some years ago as Apple. He was already getting some shit for only drawing lewd shit and now following his dreams.

Back then people were also shitposting about TG "the joke is sex" Weaver, but the latter was always very focused on stories to begin with, as his original works show (like his quests).

true, though I was saying more along the lines of "you shouldn't limit yourself". I feel like a lot of people go after attention so much they skip out on doing what they actually want, or they are so worried about what people will think of their current art that they won't start something. I know I mostly limited myself to lewds because they were the most financially sound and that it was the easiest to throw out. Now I just do them once in a blue moon when I want and am about to start something with lasting value. If only 100 or so people ever like that work that will be enough.

what got me on this train of thought is the work of Nekojiru. Her art isn't terribly good and she is extremely obscure at the moment, but if she never put her work out there I wouldn't be enjoying it now. It had a value that lasted even after her death because it's something she wanted to do.

The internet and media can give you false impressions of things in the world. On the internet, and in media and tv you're only going to be seeing the best of the best. In reality, the amount of shitty artists vastly outweigh the good. There is no exception for japanese people, or any people.

Second. Japanese have their own spaces to upload artwork because remember, they don't speak fucking english. Therefore, you don't experience situations like DA where you're being flooded with the bottom barrel scrapings that can barely be considered art. Perceptions of japanese artists are heavily skewed on the internet.

Aside from this, I also think manga has a huge influence over the amount of people who want to draw there. Regardless of how the ratio is in good to bad artists, i'd have to say the amount of people who try has to be substantially higher because of their industry.

This is one of the reasons why I just outright reject pornographic commissions. I've seen it happen too many times, where a technically proficient artist starts doing porn commissions and very quickly gets pigeonholed into doing only porn and little-to-nothing else.

>>943810

I think part of the problem is that getting meaningful feedback around here is like pulling teeth. Most of the responses to original artwork are either blind praise or something along the lines of "it's shit" without any indication of why they think it's good or bad. The signal-to-noise ratio is just abysmal, and I think it discourages many artists who want to improve from bothering to post here.

 No.960039

>An inverse correlation, perhaps?

Maybe, though I wouldn't dismiss the matter of training one's writing. I don't have a consistent one and feel like I'm changing everyday, a bit like with art. It's probably a matter of fundamentals for both areas.

>Most of the responses to original artwork are either blind praise or something along the lines of "it's shit" without any indication of why they think it's good or bad.

That is if you even get a response to begin with.

Did you draw that mech? It's pretty damn cool but the left gun/hand is hard to read because of the angle (I'm mixing up the gun and the wrist due to them being the same value), although it makes it interesting. The colored touch on the visor is nice.

Almost happened to me. Took a couple commissions that were a little on the weird side. Nothing too severe, but definitely a niche fetish (weird clothes, hairstyles, proportions. para-fetish stuff).. Well, at first I was thinking "Finally! Some commissions!" but then the guy kept asking me to do more, and fortunately I was too busy to take his requests, but it started to occur to me that if I kept doing that, soon that would be a noticeable chunk in my gallery. It might even attract other people who share that fetish looking for me to create more fap material for it. Other people who might commission me would likely notice the weird shit first and think "maybe I'll commission someone who only does normal stuff, instead.."

It's dangerous stuff.

I figure it helps make me care less about what people think of it – and be less paranoid about people bringing up old cringe– and helps me not give too much importance to my art in general.

It would be perfect if it was JUST on the tentacles if you want to add the extra layer of eldritch feeling. Like "oh this thing is so alien it doesn't even have the same coloring style as the rest of the world". But since it's on the clothes too it just doesn't look right.

The issue here is that the janitors don't do shit, and are probably behind, or tacitly approve of, the continual shitshower, and the BO is either gone, or thinks it's hilarious.

Tl;dr: Reporting does nothing, the mods are probably friends with the trolls, and BO is jacking off.

talk about obscure, he was hard to find even with jewgle's help. Looks like he mostly just does fetish art now. From what I gather he was a semi-successful indie comic artist in the 80's?

 No.1013867

>>1013762

Mmm, nah, he was a fan artist who made mini-comics, made the jump to the indies and, here my knowledge is hazy, had a mentor figure turn on him and got chased out of the business by industry insiders. Since then he's attempted a kickstarter, which failed, and tried recruiting another artist to draw his webcomic, which he couldn't find because of the necessity of the recruit being able to fake several styles, which is a pity because he was offering pretty good money AND a slice of the pie if it took off. Then he had a water leak in his basement which destroyed a lot of original artwork, killing his projects for now.

It's a point of frustration for me, having been a fan of his since the 80's, that his shitty Charlie Brown karma keeps stymieing him. I sent a couple of drawfag friends his way, but they either lazied out, priced themselves out, or had a nervous breakdown.

I guess I empathise because his experiences mirror mine in the 90's.

He's some kind of engineer for Ma Bell having aced "the impossible test", so he has the "Golden Handcuffs" and can't devote as much time to Sy-Fi Guy as he'd like, are there any drawfags here who like drawing Studebakers and tits, and like money?

Maybe I'm a tad late, but I'll drop my red hot opinion here anyway.

Absolute disregard towards artists, retarded waifufaggotry, general treatment of those as "haha free commission", incessant shitposting as these threads can easily be used for someone to bait a "pedohunter" kind of an inbred or someone adamantly anti-homo.

I've had this idea of having some sort of drawthread-request repository (not the booru) where random niggers from the threads can put their requests once and never bother the drawthread with their waifufaggottry (or at least giving the mods a good reason for locking them out of it) and for bored drawfags to find new requests.

Had it not been for the fact that I've always been shittalking this attitude in drawthreads to the point of derailing them into absolute shitflinging garbage fires, at least in /v/ then I'd agree with you on the "outgrowing" and "less fun".

Either way, I don't really see your point considering that drawthreads don't get newcomers at all at this point.

The more you organise them, the worse they'll get. Something as simple as an OP on /b/ of a paint screen with "tell me what to draw" in the posting field is what started this tradition. It gets worse, the more you deviate from it.

>>1014109

Nobody wants to waste their time drawing, when there's no career in it.

You really think it's hopeless? Or should just leave it until this thread is full?

I personally do not really pursue anything out of drawing simply because it's a way to kill time while getting myself a skill that I might use at some point somewhere. Plus otherwise it'd be a pretty fucking brad existence, what with doing absolutely fuckall 24/7 on days when I don't have uni.

>>1014137

I am of a firm opinion that drawthreads are fucked six ways from sunday no matter what you do with them. I'd rather have an original content thread over a drawthread.

Were you drawfagging before uni?

Yeah, way before uni in fact. Think 2014 shittergate exodus or so.

There certainly was a lot more incentive to draw, back then.

About the same fucking amount of it, actually, since I was sitting on my ass for a solid year at that point just doing nothing since I wasn't either employed or in education.

Jesus, anon. Can't you just do some honest work?

 No.1014154

Why bother, I have real estate I'm renting out. The only reason I'm in uni is because i'm bored.

how does /tg/ manage to have decent (or at least less fucked) drawthreads then?

 No.1014255

That's a relatively recent DT, with an OP stolen from /v/'s

Still, they have been having drawthreads for a long time now. Mostly due to one certain quite active drawfag but still

 No.1014306

It's a semi-dead board with like one artist in the thread. There's simply not enough people to shit it up.

At least on /v/ I'm seeing new artists. Not enough to replace the ones who left, but still.
