Anything by DC and Warner Bros, if you're so curious. The DCEU, Monsterverse and Pokeverse seem to be the only three existing cinematic universes that have the power to crush the MCU and Star Wars once and for all, especially since those two movie series are slowly crumbling. The MCU blew their load with Endgame and will have nothing else worthwhile to bring to the table except the SJW crap from the comics, which will naturally turn off common audiences and lead to the MCU's final demise. Same deal for Star Wars, except it has yet to blow its load with Episode IX.

Anything not by those companies. Support more independent lesser known creators. Laika & Wes Andersen for some stop motion films. There's also been a slew of animated films from europe that're pretty good.

Why? A faggot who dislikes anything comic-related should go to /a/.

Also, a true newfag is the one who asks that question OP did, instead of going into a fucking indie comic store and getting whatever shit lies around there. Or go to Youtube and watch some cartoon pilots done by animators.

It's not that fucking hard and 2 minutes of thinking could have answered that question.

Holy fucking shit just Google Indie comics or Franco-Belgian or Canadian comics. Or hell, read I Am A Hero, which is manga, but doesn't feel like it.

But OP sounds like a fucking leftist hippie who would also refuse to Google.

Holy shit you have a whole internet ahead of you. And I'm the newfag here. Right.

There are barely any comics, but many mangas drawn in Germany, which are mostly terrible (I've only read one exception, which isn't very original though, story-wise).

Most comics are not funny unless you grew up in Germany, know 80s and 90s lifestyle in Germany or how people talk in certain parts.

The humor is often rebellious, full of cussing and sex, in contrast to terrible mainstream comic strip collections a la Garfield.

There's for example the Werner comics, about a young handyman in training in northern Germany, taking place in the 80s. It's crudely drawn, like a kid in school would draw cartoons. He hangs out with biker gangs, often gets drunk, gets in trouble for traffic offenses or trolls the high and middle class, or even cults from that time.

The mainstream taste in comics is absolute trash in Germany. There is a comic series for example about a cat, and the joke is that it acts like a cat, so that cat owners are like "HAHA I get it, that's totally what a cat would do." There's a guy who's probably old as fuck by now and he creates those unfunny, dated comics with cats, mice, dogs etc, but if you look closer at his humor it's unconfortably racist as in "not knowing better because he's fucking old" racist, but noone cares.

There's also a guy who draws a comic series that's named "Not Funny" and that's exactly what they are, yet everyone loves them.

That reminds me, I still intend to scan and translate a German, originally Dutch, HP Lovecraft comic for /co/. For some odd reason it was never translated to English but it's great.

> The mainstream taste in comics is absolute trash in Germany.

You make the assumption that people in every country read and watch primarily the media from their country. I understand where this comes from, but it's wrong.

I grew up in German and the most comics in my library were rather Belgian or French. Comics people were buying were American. Later Anime became a thing. A few German comics only filled into this. Germany until recently had a strong censorship and disapproval towards violence and everything which was seen as being against human dignity and feminism, which of course harmed the arts and commerce. There were for example limitation for advertising of things which could not be made illegal.

However let me take a lock, since I want to know myself:

- I recalled https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lurchi (for children)

- So sad: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_comic_books#Germany_(Comic)

- Some stuff I though was from Germany isn't.

- The 'revival' some sites write about is of course quite artsy and special, also seem to be quite SJW infused.

Yeah, it's dire.

Germanys whole cultural output is under control of people which are a disgusting mix of SJW and conservative philistines. There is also this utterly stupid notion that if we start something then it has to be in our own cultural tradition and maybe something completely unique, otherwise it isn't German anyways. Everything related to artistry also is under the pressure of being political, and of course in a certain soy-infused way. If people want to make something entertaining then they make it as primitive and stupid you could think of, because they assume that's what the plebs want.

We also have no relevant Scifi. I really should stop thinking about that. We need a purge in this country.

Oh, yeah I forgot that in my rant. Some immigrated guy, I think Persian, did Felidae, but only the novel: https://felidae.fandom.com/wiki/Felidae_Wiki

The movie is actually really good, also this guy is quite anti-PC especially anti feminist. However, only the story is from this guy who lives in Germany and is probably a citizen, the comic production happened elsewhere (Asia).

The animated movie was produced by a German studio. However, once again this has some SJW content in it (would be a spoiler, but easy to guess, hint: Germany), which is probably the reason why it got produced in the first place.

But it's impressive how many fucking animals Lurchi violently killed, like stabbing a tiger with an elephant tusk to impress the Africans who were all cannibals or some shit.

"Germany's whole cultural output" there is barely any output, and if there is, it's Americanized but at least 5 years off-trend.

Yeah okay, I love Felidae, I read all books. But first, that author is Turkish (ironically) and went full nazi against his own kind who "ruin Germany". He's that kind of traitor who thinks his current home feeds him well, so why should he share?

Not only that but the author went absolutely nuts. Just check my book summaries for his downfall. if you think book 1 was insane, just look:

Book 1: It's the cartoon. Main character Francis tries to solve cat murders, while cat cults appear and cat species he has never seen. He finds out, a surviving laboratory cat went nuts and intends to breed the cat master race and kill the weak, his natural innocence lost by watching illegal cat experiments (which are creepy to watch, like the whole movie).

I don't get why you call it SJW. No human in the book is punished for their actions, so no situation improves for anyone. If you're saying that feeling like shit by watching others die is SJW, then you're an edgelord.

Book 2: My favorite book in the series, Francis escapes from home to roam around the countryside and again finds murdered (beheaded) cats. A batshit crazy enviromentalist conspiracy theorist (so much for SJW) let a group of lynx and feral cats run free, which start to murder house cats, so she hires a hunter to kill them all. The book is all about occultism and near death experiences.

Book 3: Also a good one. Cats and dogs accuse each other of murder and are about to start a race war, since both cats and dogs were killed. Francis has to work with a dog and they hate each other. Turns out, the murderer is a crazy war veteran ethnologistic, using a garden claw to fake bite marks on cats and dogs, trying to cause and simulate a war with them. He's allergic to cats, and after he kills the dog sidekick, Francis gathers in his bedroom with other cats and watches him choke to death.

Book 4, which I keep confusing for Book 3:

Lot's of cats get ripped to shreds by an unknown animal, and Francis gets competition from his son (he screwed that one female in Book 1). This is the first book getting kinda ridiculous, because it's about genetics, hence the father/ son theme, and the murderer is a failed cat experiment, originally bred to create a new, beautiful cat race for obsessed collectors.

Book 5: Here we go. Francis's owner takes him on vacation in Rome (what). There, he finds a waifu street cat. Again, there is cat murder to solve. Also, some gay/ bisexual and good looking cat appears, befriending Francis and trying to get into his pants (?). But, and I shit you not, it turns out that this cat is just bait for street cats, to get them to a certain place, where a military group secretly tests the mobility on AI controlled missiles on cats. And Francis's owner also adopts the waifu cat.

Book 6: Turns out I didn't read this, but it's a prequel about Francis's past, where he was some hippie high on catnip, his family were street cats and he's fighting the friggin devil. At the end it's just a dream. Wtf.

Book 7: Now it gets even more batshit. No spoiler tag because there isn't a twist. A rich woman leaves all her money and the house to her cat, who everyone wants to murder now. One cat which seems to talk like a Rabbi wants to ask her to use the money to buy an island and create a safe haven for all cats. They get betrayed during a gathering by the guy who sells the island and, I shit you not, gasses the cats in a greenhouse and while they are confused and weak, sends them marching into a giant oven. Most cats escape to a plane set on autopilot to take them to the island, but are attacked by the half-burned villain who climbed the plane like a supervillain. I think they throw him out.

Book 8: Okay here we go, I wanna see a cartoon about this one. Francis, for some unexplained reason, is back home. He finds a cat cult that worships a black hole and sacrifice themselves to it. Francis gains the ability to get backwards in time for a bit, but it leads to nothing (yet another supernatural cat ability, according to the author… k…). Turns out, Francis's owner has proven a conspiracy theory and tries to escape from men in black (I think they shoot him). He also befriends a strange looking cat. And the conspiracy is: A black hole opened, a secret facility was build around it, and the government tries to close it by throwing an atom bomb into it. Francis accidently rides the bomb into the black hole, pisses the timer out (yes!) and lands on a planet of alien friggin god-cats who were once worshipped by Egyptians. Since they have superpowers, they send him back home.

> Also, Lurchi is theoretically shit, because it's just a racist shoe commercial.

Racist? Who cares? Not that I'd know why.

> it's Americanized but at least 5 years off-trend.

That whole idea that everything inspired or influenced by something from US is 'Americanized' is a mayor contribution to the problem in itself.

I recall Akif Pirinçci insisting on being Persian, because of his heritage. He is not a traitor for rightfully criticizing other immigrants for their bad behavior or the government for letting them in, and simply being loyal to the country he is living in and having the citizenship from.

> his current home feeds him well, so why should he share?

Lol, if he would do the opposite then he would be called traitor by other people. He picked the right side. You on the other hand represent the kind of thinking which tears is down in every possible way.

Some of those comics are available for 5-18$ as PDF, so the risk is limited. Also I don't know if a movie is good before I watched it in cinema or as a stream.

To echo others, German comic market is pretty bad. Both in terms of what's available and They went through a variant of hysteria surrounding comics just like the U.S. did. Kraut creators did not protest like French creators did. Krauts also did not gets as lucky as Americans, where only CCA was established and you could still print and sell whatever you want, but it would not get the seal thus limiting your distribution options. In Germany comics were practically censored by government, thus killing the industry. German government CCA equivalent was also far stronger than the American counterpart, it held real power well into 2000s, and still exerts some control. Only thing to survive were children targeted comics and sparse comic strips in papers or magazines.

Most comics of value sold in Germany today are imports from other EU states, US, and Japan. Their market is worse off than in UK and many Slavic or Scandinavian countries. There are some efforts, but it's all baby steps, as German comic book market and culture has to start over after it was killed. Any country neighboring Krauts produces better comics and has market that is more varied.

France, Belgium, Italy, and to a lesser extent UK are the go-tos for European comics. Things from other countries tend to be too culture-specific and not available in English.

No, it started way earlier than that. For example, 1920s had flappers. If you go further, Ancient Rome eventually developed a whole culture of young upstart patrician politicians who were championing plebs and taking role of tribune of the plebs seriously. They did it both for their careers and to stick it to the status quo. This was appealing to conservative patricians. In addition, depending on which sources you trust, ancient Roman rebellious youth would adopt elements of barbarian fashion as a form of rebellion. They would wear pants, boots, grow mustache, and lighten hair. This was against Roman social norms, especially among traditionalists and upper strata of the society. People like Cicero were disgusted by that.

Just seems weird that I'm never heard or seen or heard of it until this thread. I thought I had pretty decent knowledge in comics (even from Europe) just seems like a series that would have been mentioned more by (western) comic websites or given a full localization or even a European made animated series years ago.

A strong female asian character who's a electrical engineer and goes on sci-fi adventures while drawn in a ligne claire art style? Sounds like it would be a character that western SJW's or STEM/STEAM educator types would be promoting or Hollywood would have grabbed up the movie rights by now.

Who knows maybe being a female led euro comic is what unintentionally stopped it from being more well known it compared to marketable male euro characters like Tintin, Spirou, Blake & Mortimer, Asterix, Diabolik, Valerian, etc?

Yeah, the whole thing makes me wondering as well. I guess it's something about people being opposed to 'exotism', 'cultural appropriation', and especially her looking quite young. I don't really have an answer.

Considering a movie or a show: I thought a while ago this would be something for Joss Whedon with maybe with Kristin Kreuk as lead. The real problem here would be that the sets would be very expensive, because the settings are really spectacular. Since the comic isn't well known, it's obvious why this isn't happening.

Most of the usual suspects read capeshit and small selection of creator owned stuff exclusively. Occasional shonen flavor of the month manga is as far as they will go out of that comfort zone. There are a rare few who will pretend to have read 'Moebius' or Judge Dredd, but won't be able to discuss either if asked. Other than that, European comic books are completely off their radar, unless something is being made into a movie or a videogame.

Only Americans who read European comics I encountered were on imageboards, niche forums, or people who are interested in creating their own comics and recognize that there are problems with American comic books.

>Joss Wheadon

Do you really want her to turn into Wheadon's fetish of a girl who kicks everyone's ass, and dialogue that's mainly made of snarky comments and 'clever' turns of phrase?

Animation would probably be the best medium for adaptation. It's probably optimal to leave adaptation to Belgians. Japs might be a decent second choice, as they are pretty good at adapting other media to animation while still retaining essence of the original.

Unlike other people close to Comicsgate I do like most of Whedons past work, even very much. Buffy really isn't Captain Marvel. You seem to miss the fact that his stories are more then 'girl who kicks everyone's ass', this is everyone else. He is the one which does such stories very well, with a lot of emotional drama and tragedy while still funny. However, I've got to admit he got more woke over time and I don't know his recent work. So yeah, maybe I would prefer the Japs would do it nowadays. It's not that important anyways, I need to read more comics and manga, watching anime not watching live-action tv anyways.

It's just that Whedon's writing style and his favorite cliches do not mesh well with Yoko Tsuno,

Whedon's earlier stuff is not too bad, but eventually his crutches and limited story elements become obvious and predictable. There is always a kickass woman who is the best fighter around. Most characters are smart asses. His every story eventually becomes about stopping some apocalyptic event. Same stock characters in every story. Overrelliance on character death to raise the stakes. Constant quips that undercut everything and become tiring. Whedon needs a collaborator who can tell him when everything is getting too silly and predictable.

Worst thing about Whedon is his constant pandering to feminists. He is someone willing to rewrite everything just to please whining twitter faggots.

When there are more and more characters there are always some similarities, I guess. This seems unavoidable to me. Having that said, no he doesn't really. Panthro has a bigger nose or a beard, dependent on the version of him, and Shinobi has more muscles and is bigger. Also Panthro has his west like some rocker while Shinobi is more like a samurai.
