I don't think models were used at all here, and I'd be interested in knowing where you think models were used. Personally, a better example of model/sketchup abuse would be Inuyashiki. The fact that it is digital doesn't mean much either, a good chunk of artists, professional mangaka use csp now.

Anon, you are on point and that is the major flaw of this comic. There is so much focus put on the detail in the image that most of these pages are completely "unreadable" to the naked eye. it's Dresden Codak, but instead of too many bubbles, there's too much everything. They could have some fantastic compositions here but they're essentially destroyed in a mess of lines. It wouldn't even be so bad if they just gave the focus of their frames more space- either by increasing the white lines around each character, or making their outlines much bolder.
I can speculate why this happened, because it was the reason I quit drawing comics digitally. It's because when you work digitally, you have the ability to zoom in- but sometimes it equates to treating the panel like it's own page.
On the other hand I do really admire the fact that they're doing manga instead of half assing it. The details are pretty damn good and it's well put together, the action is has a lot of impact.
tl;dr artist needs better composition skills
