Haven't tried steel cut yet, but from what I understand rolled oats /fit/ my lifestyle a little better for what I use them for (easy to make porridge for breakfast really quickly in the mornings). I'll definitely give steel cut a try someday though, even though the nutritional value is the same.
I just mix my porridge with a chopped banana and 2 tablespoons of ground flaxseed. No sugar/honey needed.

Hello my fellow /fit/izen
I also eat the rolled oats. I don't really eat breakfast as I don't wake up early enough and usually just make it in time for work - but for lunch I will eat "breakfast" so to speak
I eat rolled oats in the microwave then add a banana and eat with some strawberries if i have some. I will also eat some peanut butter with it and that is my lunch. Quick & easy and simple cleanup

I prefer steel-cut for the texture, but for the sake of time I often times resort to quick steel cut.
I alternate between plain, sweet, and savory, so I may just throw some fruit in if I want it sweet. For savory I'll do something like take the quick steel-cut oatmeal out of the microwave when there's a minute or so left, put a bit of soy sauce and garlic powder, then mix in an egg before heating it for its last minute.
I also tried a soaking trick I saw somewhere. I threw some oats, water and milk in a masons jar, along with whatever other fixings (I put in dried cranberries, chopped ginger, a little honey and some allspice), capped it and let it sit in the fridge overnight. Then you have a chewy, liquidy sort of…thing in the morning. Kind of like cereal. I think I went too crazy on the ginger, but other than that, it was kind of nice. Not for the faint of chew.

My cholesterol is high (former /fit/izen from 3yrs back; dat 70# loss) so I've been eating the instant oatmeal. I have a jar of steel cut oats on my counter but I can be bothered to cook it in the morning. Funny I still saved one of my Cooks Illustrated (American Test Kitchen) mags for the recipe of the 'perfect' steel cut oatmeal (takes 5min).

I always liked the texture of rolled better unless I'm making Haggis

What oat:water ratio did you use? I've never considered soaking.

For rolled oatz, 3:1
First boil the water then add the oatz and give it a quick stir, serve within ten seconds of adding the oatz

I always get mine organic and eat them raw with water and raisins or other dried fruits and raw nuts, or occasionally I find organic vanilla soymilk with no carageenan and pour that all over like crazy.

Pic unrelated, it's how lazy poorfags poach eggs.

I am a very simple-minded person when it comes to preparing meals, but this sounds literally easier than ordering fast food. Just raw oats and it's okay? I must try this.

My breakfast these days has been two eggs, raw, in orange juice, sometimes with a splash of brandy or tobacco. I should probably add some oats to it, but I always get a tummy ache if I eat cereals before ten AM.

Not rolled nor cut. I put whole oats in my slow-cooker. Roughly 1 part oats and 3-4 parts water. Takes a few hours to swell. Dont add anything - perhaps a little butter (diary).

Steel cut oats, cacao nibs, raisins, blueberries, walnuts, pecans, hazelnuts, sliced banana, milk.
Rolled oats suck and taste like sawdust imo. Daily bowl of steel cut oats with nuts gives your jaw a workout which is important.

Fruits, cinnamon, honey, brown sugar, mostly bananas if I don't have any berries. I'd like to start getting into using pumpkin more often however. This thread reminded me to make some overnight oats, an idea I recently got from the buff dudes. Might throw in this peach that's been sitting in the fridge for a week now.

I like mine with blueberries, bananas, cinnamon, coco, and a bit of nutmeg.
I tried putting protein powder in it recently and it wasn't very good, but may have just fucked it up.
I mix my protein powder with skim milk powder, and just throwing that powder mix in to the oats gave it a horrible taste and texture.
Today I mixed just the protein powder with a bit of cold water to try and dissolve it a bit before throwing it in. It turned out significantly better, but I'm still not impressed. I expect it would be better to throw it in after it finishes cooking. Protein powder doesn't like heat. I doubt that'll make enough of a difference, though.
I think I'll just stick to my fruit oatmeal and have my protein shake separately.
