I'm visiting Dublin next week. What good fast food places are there in Ireland?

I heard fast food is like $20 for a standard entree in Dublin.

That's true, but who comes here to eat sushi?

Dublin also isn't the best place for food, actually Ireland in general isn't the best place for food.

I figured you guys would have amazing recipes for potato dishes given how important the potato was for you.

North sea (cold water) fish and shellfish are top notch.

The Japanese come here to eat sushi.

Lobster, langoustine, mussel, oyster, grey shrimp, scallop, sea bass, salmon, trout, Atlantic cod, North sea crab and king crab (invasive species, brought here by Stalin from the Bering strait), sea urchin and cucumber…

Your country has great food. Fantastic meat, bread, vegetables, fruit and cheese. You're eating in the wrong places for the wrong reasons.

We don't have all that many dishes native to Ireland, most of our food is shared with Scotland and England.

A good one is coddle, which is basically just potato and pork with some herbs, but you wouldn't find that in many restaurants.

People always associate Ireland with potatoes, but we have some great breads.

My absolute favourite is barmbrack, a raisin bread eaten at Halloween. Any Irishman will know what this is, it's ubiquitous with October. Pretty much every store sells it around that time. The Welsh have their own variant known as bara brith.

Another one is a blaa, a type of really soft and light bread bun. They've lovely with eggs and rashers.

Veda bread is a sweet malt bread mostly popular in Northern Ireland. I've heard it's nice with cheese.

Soda bread has to be one of the most famous Irish breads. Traditionally made with yogurt or buttermilk, it's a very firm and fatty bread. When sliced and covered with creamery butter it's a nice compliment to light meal or a cup of tea.

It's very much a real thing, quite popular as well.

People usually buy it from bakeries or make it. You can buy brand-name soda bread as well, but it's usually sold in tiny square loafs.

Oh, I forgot to post a recipe.

From memory, here's one I use. It could be horribly wrong because I don't really measure things

>1 1/2 cup buttermilk or 1 cup milk and half cup yogurt

>1 teaspoon baking powder

>400 grams plain flour

>300 grams wholemeal flour

>pinch of salt

>oats or extra flour to sprinkle on top

Mix dry ingredients and add in milk/yogurt and combine.

Knead for maybe 1 or 2 minutes, just to get it all mixed together. Get it to a firm dough, then roll into a ball and place onto a tray. Cut a cross into the top and sprinkle oats/flour on top.

Bake at 180 degrees Celsius for 40-50 minutes.

Optional things

>soaked raisins

>chopped nuts

>seeds

By the way, if the dough is too wet just add more flour. Soda bread dough doesn't need to be kneaded much, so if it can't hold its own shape it's too wet.
