Discord is closed source and centralized. Everything you post is visible by the company, which states in the terms that they own your data. There is high reason to suspect that discord leaked data about some right wing groups last year which led to their legal trouble.

Riot.im is an alternative that doesn't have propensity for this issue. It's functionally equivalent.

there is a 8church IRC on rizon that been around for more than a couple of years now that predates the /christian/ discord. Although i'm not familiar with its 'culture' though I only know of its existence.
