"And Jesus said to him, “Amen I tell you: today, you will be with me in Paradise” (Luke 23:43)
The criminal to whom Jesus said this is saved through his faith. He didn't have time for works. Therefore, we can be saved through good faith without works.
If, however, one does not strive to be a good servant of God and remains idle, then he doesn't have a good faith, he deceives himself by thinking that he has faith. He will be told: ‘You wicked and lazy servant! You understood that I reap where I did not sow, and that I gather where I did not scatter. And so, you should have deposited my money with the bankers, and at my coming, I would have received it back with interest. Therefore, take away the talent from this one, and give it to the one who has the ten talents. For to everyone who has, [more] will be given and he will have in abundance. But from the one who does not have, even what he has will be taken away. Throw out the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’” (Matthew 25:26-30)
"No one can lay any other foundation than the one that has [already] been laid, which is Jesus Christ. But as one builds on that foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, or stubble; each person’s work will be revealed. Certainly, the Day will make it manifest, because it is revealed in fire; and the fire will test everyone’s work." (2 Cor. 3:11-13)
"You see, then, that one is justified by works, and not only by faith." (James 2:24)
