Humans derive pleasure from all sorts of abominable actions, sadly. It's part of fallen nature and not part of God's original design. Just like death wasn't a part of God's original design and isn't truly "normal" either. The world, and especially mankind, is in a state of entropy and sin ever since the fall. It is constantly inventing and habituating itself to new forms of corruption. Who knows, nature might even be literally mutating and "evolving" to support all of these sins (a scary thought). But one wouldn't be aware of how wrong the state of the world is unless you had a "baseline" to relate it to. Unless you were told about this pristine example and then could compare it to our world. And we indeed have that: this is Christ himself. Before that, God gave the Law to inform humanity of just how badly they've fallen from his intent, but it could only do so much.
Last but not least, this is the point of baptism: to die with Christ, and be "born from above" [John 3:3]. To come out of the "matrix" of this world, if you will. Only then will people begin to understand just how broken nature is, and join God to work in reversing it. They are blind to it otherwise. Science isn't going to help. It doesn't have the tools for it or any exposure to anything better. It doesn't know where to even begin an assessment. To use a flimsy analogy, that's like listening to a food reviewer who only reviews junk food. He has favorites and say this or that is the best of the bunch… but in actuality, it's all complete crap. None of the things he reviews is truly "best". It's still all junk food at the end of the day and this reviewer is a pitiable simpleton. Yet he doesn't know any better. Everything available to him encourages low standards. He's never had a good homecooked meal or met a true chef. So his idea of "good" is very limited in scope. This is similar to a scientist, who only limits his studies to the material world. They don't even know how to talk about "life" without also talking about "death". They go in hand in hand in his mind and he knows no better.
