>2482 "A lie consists in speaking a falsehood with the intention of deceiving."
What about speaking a truth with the intention of deceiving? Here's a very simple example to illustrate:
Person A is supposed to meet person B at a certain specified time. Person B is waiting, person A arrives 30 minutes late.
Asked by B why he was late, A replies "My bus was late", which is a fact - the bus was 5 minutes late. But the real reason why A was late is that he didn't care a lot about the meeting, so he deliberately left at a time where he knew he would arrive late.
While he spoke truth, it wasn't the truth B was asking for.
Is this a sin? Is it a lie?
When you tell a fully true statement to someone, but the intention of saying it is to hide another fact from them, is it the sin of lying?
If yes, then how do you avoid telling somebody a fact that you want to hide from them (in the case where not knowing won't harm them) without sinning?
Also, what would you say about this passage? I'm not accusing The Lord of lying by any means, but He says He's not going to the feast and then goes to the feast.
>You go to the festival. I am not going up to this festival, because my time has not yet fully come.” After he had said this, he stayed in Galilee.
>However, after his brothers had left for the festival, he went also, not publicly, but in secret.
