The Sadducees came at Jesus with a question of how marriage relates to you after you die. This is despite the fact we should already know that the Law only has dominion over a person until they die, as the apostle Paul also explains (Romans 7:1-3).
This question would have been easy to answer as a false premise, since marriage is annulled by the bodily death. Jesus went even further by revealing more about what happens in his answer, and he said that there they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven.
He doesn't say that they are them, but that they are like them in the same way that these don't have marriage.
Also since the Sadducees don't believe in resurrection of the dead, his answer addresses this by implying the fact that Abraham, Isaac and Jacob are alive and not dead. This mirrors 2 Corinthians 5:6-8, and also, the fact that God is able to raise up those who he will from the grave, just as he did with Jesus Christ.
But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept. For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming.
