Those sins you ask for forgiveness for honest forgetfulness are absolved so you don't *have* to confess them again but it is good practice to develop a desire to confess your sins. Not only will it lighten your soul knowing that you have accounted for your sins but you have also been absolved of them.

Anon, I understand your hesitation. I converted this year and had about 10 years of mortal sin to confess. To this day I fear confessing a single mortal sin because all mortal sins are shameful and perverse. It is good to feel this same, for if you do not you will not kill your vices. I have wept in the confessional in sorrow of my sins, and many others do as well. This is the type of contrition one must have in order to be forgiven. Man is both the chisel and the marble, anon. You must face the pain in order to become holier, and your shame and sorrow is a just realization of the grave offense you have committed. That said, you must go to church (don't receive the Eucharist in a state of mortal sin for that is a sacrilege) and afterwards try to talk to the priest and ask to set up a time to give your confession and tell him you've been out of the Church for so long. If you can't do that face to face you could try emailing him or something. After your confession you may receive the holy Eucharist, but just knowing that you have been absolved of all your sins and you are pure in the eyes of the Lord, that if you dropped dead the instant the priest finished saying "I absolve you of your sins in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit", you will go straight to heaven when the moment before you were doomed to hell, is perhaps the greatest feeling in the world.
Make sure you do a thorough examination of conscience, there are guides online. I recommend writing them in a notebook and burning the pages after absolution. Good luck, anon, and God bless.
