All that really matters is the authority we trust, that's it anything else is a red herring and you shouldn't consider. We aren't all protestants choosing the denom we just agree with most, we have to just trust the authority that has the better claim.
To see the Catholic claim listen to these two.

The second has the most insightful stuff but the two together establish the foundations well.
God made us a Church to be clear and distinct so we can rely on it as the source of truth, we aren't supposed to master theology and dispute over things we don't understand.

If you want an extra going in depth on a parable, also goes over the Catholic view of bible studies and also sort of the hot takes on theology you see often on /christian/.
final bonus

My favorite book on ecclesiology , through analyzing the parables (the previous video is based on this).
To be clear the only thing you should focus on is ecclesiology/authority.
You do not choose the Church you like more or agree with more, that's modernism and following your feelings, see who has the better claim to authority and trust Christ is protecting them.
There is tons of messy theology twitter takes people who are clueless on philosophy or theology have here because of memes, like I said ignore anything not related to authority since it's literally just not relevant unless you choose the Church based on your own theological views. There is also lots of attacks on eachother.
The best thing you can do is see the foundations of Catholic ecclesiology and authority, and the Eastern Orthodox, or Oriental Orthodox claims to authority and about eccleisology are and see which makes more sense. The whole rabid attacking eachother just kinds of waste times so try to look at the positive descriptions rather then the ones that are only negative (churches that entire identity is not being the other one).
No one here mentions Oriental Orthodoxy for some reason… very odd.
was kidding about the final bonus here is another

I'd recommend those first two highly and the book, but if you want something short there is this but you will really be missing out.

The videos I posted and the book should help with that understanding. I'd recommend not diving into Church politics as those don't really effect claims about authority and there is tons of lies just like with all media.
The damage you are talking about actually has fairly clear sources, and they aren't vatican 2, it's a complex issue which I wouldn't worry about but if it's something you need something on listen to this series.

There is a ton of outright lies about it but this priest clarifies many misunderstandings. But like I said focus on the authority aspects, and the spiritual life as well that's way more interesting.

good short series on that. For a book check out St. Francis De Sales introduction to the Devout life.
