Thoughts on the Amish community and Anabaptists as a whole? Seems like a nice bunch by today's standards especially.

The only reason they continue to exist is the asymmetry inherent in the separation of church and state. Because you can opt out of the church but you can't opt out of the state, the state effectively becomes the new church and only by its grace can you opt in to the church. Without the protection of the state these pacifist sects would cease to exist. They tacitly concede that the state is greater than the Church. Their god is the god of religious liberty not the God of revelation.

This is the only reason the US government leaves them mostly unmolested. Their apparent rejection of the state is actually an affirmation of the state's power.

>Their apparent rejection of the state is actually an affirmation of the state's power.

Elaborate, from what I know most of them live fairly isolated and remotely, generally keeping to themselves and living self-sufficiently, they rely a lot less on the state than you or I for one and they feed it a lot less than you or I as a consequence of that too.

How are they affirming the state's power then exactly? Especially more so than the avarage Joe?

Read the first post. The separation of church and state doesn't place both on equal footings but necessarily makes the state greater than the church. The liberal mythos is that the state is the defender of religous liberty but not necessarily greater than the church. The Amish and Anabaptists serve as a shining example of this bait-and-switch. They manifest the mythos of the liberal state and so are only serve as tools of the state. Try starting your own cult with an element of political separation and it'll get WACO'd in a heartbeat.

I thinka lot of their theology is wrong (sacraments, credobaptism, etc), but I do love them and if they were near me (any Anabaptist) I would've become them and not Catholic. Their separation from the world and the state, their non-resistant pacifism and similar attitudes from them I have adopted and kept wth me though. Neo-Anabaptism is also very interesting.

I read the first two posts and I couldn't make heads or tails of either until you mentioned WACO.

Interesting video on the Anabaptist.

Seems like a socio-politically ideal bunch tbh, I'm just worried for their theology.

Absolutely excellent. They will outlast a hundred other sects and still thrive. While I disagree with them theologically any good christian should appropriate their way of life.

>appropriate

Whatever happened to the word “emulate”? Did we all swallow the cuckpill or something? “Cultural appropriation” is a made-up liberal boogeyman.

Fixed it for you to make it describe catholicism and main stream christianity
