The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

I'm upper class and could be considered rich in my country. I'm also a Christian. In the Bible it says that for the rich it's impossible to enter the kingdom of heaven. Do I need to sell everything and become a homeless man to go to heaven?

Mark 10:

>21 Jesus looked at him and loved him. “One thing you lack,” he said. “Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”

>22 At this the man’s face fell. He went away sad, because he had great wealth.

>23 Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, “How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God!”

>24 The disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus said again, “Children, how hard it is[e] to enter the kingdom of God! 25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.”

Why do people hate to read stories to the end? In this case "what is impossible for men is possible for God"?

But Jesus still told the young Rich man to give up all his possessions and give to the poor

Important part there is "and follow me" which you omitted. This was about wether would he give up everything for God. And he didn't, at least for that time. Not that rich are cursed or something similar.

Also, mind you the richest person in the bible is Solomon

Mark

{10:27} And Jesus looking on them, saith with men it is impossible; but not with God. For all things are possible with God.

It may be impossible for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle, but with God it is possible. Do you have to sell all your possessions to be good with the Church? No. Would it help? Yes

As long as you are using your time and wealth to glorify God you can keep it. If you have monthly income, donate a portion of it to the church. You don't have to sell all of it to be charitable. For you will be able to do more good month to month than just one month and thats it.

And liberation theology and socialism/communism are vile heresies in the Church. So don't fall for (((leftists))) and their lies.

So Jesus was basically saying that he couldn't be rich?

No, Jesus is testifying to the truth that the rich in the eyes of the world have it easy, but in the eyes of God have a tremendous burden - they must use their wealth for the good of both the Church and the good of man-kind, or face judgement.

Remember, Christ taught that He was the narrow way. So when He reprimanded the rich man, He was telling him he has an EXTRA burden compared to your average sinner.

No. You're not supposed to value money above salvation or to nurture an undue attachment to it, and use it as far as possible according to the second great commandment. I remember reading a commentary on this question, but I don't remember where that pointed out examples in the Bible of rich men who were nonetheless held as pious, since they were God-fearing and benefactors of the poor and Christian communities. They didn't liquidate their assets and give it all away. It's not so much how much you own, but to what use you put it.

Use your money to build a gigantic, well-made needle and then have a camel pass through it.

This.

Look at the reaction of the disciples - they were amazed. Today people have this automatic view that anyone with money must've done something bad to get it, but that wasn't the view back then - rich people were rich because God had blessed them. If you told the disciples a leper or other beggar on the street wasn't getting into heaven they would've said "well obviously, God hates that person". But tell them a rich person, blessed by God, isn't getting into heaven and they are astounded. Half of Job is his friends saying you lost everything because you pissed off God.

>26 The disciples were even more amazed, and said to each other, "Who then can be saved?"

Their reaction was if a rich man can't be saved, then what hope do we poor people have? But socialists with hatred and envy in their hearts try to twist this story into being rich is evil.

>27 Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God."

God can pass a camel through the eye of a needle, God can get a rich man into heaven.

To clarify that last line no-one can get in on their own, no-one deserves it, no-one can buy their way in. Only through God's grace is it possible to enter heaven. Only through Christ.

I guess the temptation of riches can make you forsake God since you don't have to rely on Him for your daily bread, but if you can resist the pleasures of this world and use money as a weapon against the devil and for God's Kingdom then that is the mindset you should have. Being poor is not some ideal you should pursue, being rich is not a status you should boast even in your heart either, be smart and be wise. It's not fair that legitimate Satanists have the money and power, while Christians walk around defenseless. The Didache says to make alms sweat in your hands which means think very hard before donating money.
