The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

>39 And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself and us.

>40 But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation?

>41 And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss.

>42 And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.

>43 And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, Today shalt thou be with me in paradise.

We're gonna make it bros

53 Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the Lordrevealed?

2 For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.

3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.

5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.

>Matthew 27:11, DRV

>And Jesus stood before the governor, and the governor asked him, saying: Art thou the king of the Jews? Jesus saith to him: Thou sayest it.

This verse is actually extremely witty when you think about it. If it had been translated in less formal terms, it could read:

>Pilate: So you're the king of the Jews?

>Jesus: If you say so.

Essentially, Jesus is flinging wisecracks in the face of His own death. It's one of those wordplay jokes on the same level as

>I'm bored.

<Hi Bored, I'm Anon.

Pilate is questioning Jesus to see if he wants to literally kill Him, and Jesus throws a dad joke at him. It's fantastic. You can almost hear Pilate's irritated groan. It demonstrates our Lord's incredible strength of character. When confronted by the mightiest nation in the world with certain death, Jesus is feeling positive enough to tell jokes. Our little bit of comic relief in the Passion is delivered by the one man who you'd expect by all rights to be freaking out in terror. But Jesus maintains His composure, His wit, and most importantly His faith in the Father, so that, knowing God to be mightier than death, He chooses not to take death seriously.

Those aren't wise-cracks, Jesus is not implicating Himself. He has always took care to never proclaim Himself in public, even the Apostles affirm it; this was so that scripture could be fulfilled that He was completely innocent of what the Jews accused of Him of.

Luke 23:42 has the thief confessing Christ as Lord. This is absolute truth, and anyone removing a word from the witness of God is in sin.

7 And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.

8 For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me.

9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.

think of Spiderman. in his origin story, he leaps off a building to prove himself. In the gospels, satan tempts Jesus to jump off the temple, and Jesus won't, because He won't test God and He refuses to be tempted by satan as God.

If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

>But if the ESV, which is probably one of the most literal translations out there doesnt have it, and neither does any other that I can find, it probably wasnt in the original

That is incorrect, it removes entire words and verses as do most of the modern versions. This isn't due to literality, it's because those translations are based on new discoveries that were never before known. That goes against the eternal preservation of God's word. And not only that, nobody on earth even tried to remove that word from Luke 23:42 until Tischendorf, and until Westcott and Hort came out with a revised version in 1881. You aren't even quoting the preserved sources of God's word anymore. It's a simple fact that no Bible on earth had a corrupted form of Luke 23:42 until someone came up with new revelations.

The ESV also, for instance, removes the entire verse of Acts 8:37, and it puts Mark 16:9-20 in brackets. It's just casting doubt on scripture without even being sure whether it belongs or not. By including things but marking them with brackets they are making you doubt whether you can be sure anything in the Bible is really supposed to be there. There's nothing "literal" about it. Because it doesn't even know what to write.

25“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? 26Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 27And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?g 28And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, 29yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. 33But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

[The passage where God tells Abraham to sacrifice Isaac; the passage is too long to be able to post it together with the passages below]

- Genesis 22:1-18

And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever.

The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.

- Exodus 14:13-14

The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.

The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes.

The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.

- Psalms 19:7-9

Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.

Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.

- Psalms 51:10-12

For thou, Lord, art good, and ready to forgive; and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon thee.

- Psalms 86:5

Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.

He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.

Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:

But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

- Isaiah 40:28-31

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

- Romans 12:1-2

Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

- Hebrews 12:1-2

Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:

Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

- 1 Peter 5:6-7

Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.
