The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

I want books that explain and explore Biblical stories. I really liked Dennis Prager's Rational Bible: Exodus, particularly its formatting and easy-to-understand explanations. I'm thinking about buying the Genesis book in May, but I'm not sure if there are better options out there.

Thoughts, Christanons?

Prager is good; even though he’s Jewish, he brings up good points on the Old Testament and politics

I saw that Catholic Introduction book in Barnes & Noble. Was a massive book. I'll have to give that another look!

It always seems to be affordable to me. What I dislike is that there isn't a hardcover version. I really dislike softcover, but it's even more sad that such a giant tome is done in softcover. It's a keeper.

Even though I have not watched the most recent ones, I found Jordan Peterson's commentary of the Old Testament quite interesting. Granted, it's not a theological explanation, but a "psychological" one, and at points it can seem a bit atheist or un-christian, but it's also a different angle from the more usual ones. It's clearly not the definitive Biblical analysis, but it can be an enjoyable one; maybe a good place to start or something interesting to complement proper theological reading of the Scriptures.

There's specially good to listen to when you're stuck in traffic.

>le Gnostic meme

does anybody even know what gnosticism is anymore? It seems like people just go around referring to anything they don't like as "gnostic" these days, without actually understanding what gnosticism is, nor what made it a heresy in the first place.

Please stop drinking that Vox Day kool-aid and save your Phariseeism for actual gnostics like the Freemasons.

Tbh, it's actually difficult to find solid biblical materials. I delved into a lot, both liberal/mainline and conservative. Very little of it is worth my while. I've even tried "purifying" some of my library by getting more books written in the 19th century, hoping it was more based.. but a lot of those are pozzed too. For example, I have the "Hastings Bible Dictionary" written in the 1880s or so, and he was already pushing the JEPD theory back then. lol. I wish I knew that these haters have been around this long before I bought it.

You can't go wrong with Seraphim Rose though.

>usurping biblical narrative as part of some false hermeneutics to purport a rationalistic religion of reason isn't gnostic.

It's you who doesn't understand how intwined into gnosticism he is. Gnosticism is a very broad term that is explicitly incompatible with Christianity. It's not a single school of thought it is in root the tendency to put your own knowledge, reasoning and understanding above the divinely revealed knowledge of God. Never once has he ever spoken of salvation by grace and literal restoration of our sinful nature that cut us off from the source of life, God, causing us to die. It's always vagary propelled by misusing established terms or ideas (Christian or otherwise) in order to pretend the assertions he reasons towards have weight. The world view he describes is basically the hermetic pyramid, material hierarchy where Christ's total sovereignty is reduced to metaphor of kingship, rather than restoration of creation and defeat of death caused by sin. This is the form you get to by reasoning from the world because it's what is coherent with material power. Modern western gnostic tendencies are mostly platonic in root, are compatible with eastern philosophies but not with Christianity.

>MUH VOX DAY

>MUH VOX DAY

Christians have been calling him a gnostic retard and liar long before Vox Day targeted him. Ever since he put out his biblical talks which make it clear he's never actually read the thing and just skimmed it for forms he could use in his narrative which no Christian would ever purport, even off-hand. Just about every thing he says regarding the bible is contradicted by the bible and historicity. In fact just about everything he says about anything is contradicted by the source material he usurps because he's generally just a lying retard like people who have actually read what he pretends to cite have been saying ever since he got exposure. He even pissed off the evo-psych people for misusing their nonsense and butchering their system.

I have mixed feelings about Peterson; some of his stuff is kind of interesting, but I don’t trust him. Both his fans and critics make me cringe.

>>801442

Yes, but he seems like a non-poisoning one; he still is in need of Christ, tho, and should convert.
