The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

Why do I always see cursing and swearing on this board when we all know it's a sin?

>Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless. - James 1:26

Because we're all sinners, you included.

Cope. Repent and swear no more!

If your life is so empty that you have the time to finger-wag on an anonymous basket weaving forum about naughty words, you should probably reprioritise, anon.

Indeed, abusive and crude language is vicious, but intent, more than anything else, shows my true colours. I can stub my toe and swear in pain without it being a sin, yet I can also attack God without uttering a single word.

Is it better for a man to swear occasionally, or to never swear at all?

Only liberal Christians shy away from calling out bad behavior.

Making crass jokes or insulting one another (or, worse, insulting people who aren't there to see it) are grave sins. But swear words by themselves aren't sinful. You can deeply hurt someone's heart using only family-friendly words, and you can use swear words to add strength to a point (St Paul himself swore in one of his epistles). Not that this excuses this board's behavior since swear words are usually used to insult, offend, or "banter".

Swearing is a bloodstain on your shirt. It's not a wound in itself, but it certainly is a good indicator of a problem below the surface.

Swearing against faggots and sodomites isn't a sin.

Not necessarily. σκύβαλα can be interpreted to mean cp or st, but it was basically never used that way in any other classical writings in Greek. Only under modern eyes with a modern understanding do we come to understanding it as a swear word. When Paul was writing this, the word use was by no means considered as a 'swear' word.

That probably refers more to actual blasphemy than saying the equivalent of poo-poo, or good Biblical words like bastard or ass.

Because even here there are lukewarms. Here are a few verses to counter their arguments.

"We're all sinners so it doesn't matter!"

>see John 14:23

"Nobody is perfect!"

>see Matthew 5:48

"It's impossible to be perfect!"

>see Philippians 4:13

If you have actual faith in god you won't try to justify foul language.

I use imageboards frequently, and it saddens me how much the phrase "kill yourself" gets thrown around, as if arguing over differing opinions with regard to a hobby is serious enough that someone would wish death towards the other person.

Because they’re unsaved.

The easiest sin to kick after I was saved by faith alone was swearing.
