This thread is mostly addressed to the Orthodox people on this board but as usual, anyone is free to join and share their thoughts on the man in question.

It has been over a year since his passing at the age of 103, on the 13th of February 2018.

For those familiar, please share your thoughts on him or any experiences with him if you were lucky enough to meet him while he was with us.

For those unfamiliar, Dobri Dobrev also known as Grandpa Dobri, Elder Dobri or The Saint of Bailovo, was a Bulgarian man born in 1914.

He became an ascetic around the year 2000 and sold all of his belongings.

From then on every day, he walked over 20 kms to collect money for charitable causes, donating all of his money to charities, orphanages, churches and monasteries.

Over the course of his life he donated over 40,000 Euros to churches, monasteries and other noble deeds which helped restore several churches and monasteries.

His Bulgarian name can be translated as either good, or kind.

Personally I never got to meet him but reading about him and seeing footage of him was what mostly got me out of my past depressive phase as a young adult and he had a huge influence on me and my continued studying of Orthodoxy.

I believe he was a living Saint in the modern world so I've been wondering, are there solid grounds for his canonization in the EOC perhaps?

Feel free to answer and share your personal thoughts/opinions on the man.

Yea he will probably be canonized, but these things take time. Feel free to ask him for prayers as well as pray for his repose. He said TV was satan so very based

I've only learned about him when he died because it was reported here. He looks like a very good man.

Is he the guy who spent his time begging for money, and gave all of it to homeless people? Or am I getting him confused with someone else?

someone else since this guy seems to have given it to churches and monasteries instead.

Actually I may have him in mind and I just misremembered.

One of the first posts I saw on /christian/ was about him and reading about him helped lead me to Orthodoxy. A wonderful man, thanks for the thread OP.
