I need some advice /christian/

I come from a Baptist/evangelical family, I decided to convert to Catholicism in August and am currently going through RCIA classes. My parents have largely been neutral or receptive to this. Recently I learned that my mother, an active member of her Baptist Church in my hometown will be going on a trip to Greece with others from her church put on by the International Mission Board. They'll be going to a camp outside of Athens that the UN abandoned, and that there will be others to help them out. According to my mother they'll be mostly doing Baptist ministries to a community that purportedly is actually in need and not just migrating into Europe. This is all according to my mother, I'm taking her at her word.

While I do feel sympathy for those in need, I also know that the mere presence of these migrants has caused an immense amount of trouble in Greece and in Europe. Now my mother isn't blind to that, but she insists that this is something she's led to do and that she'll be ministering to these people and genuinely helping them. I set aside my Catholic beliefs, knowing I wouldn't convince her about those in an evening over the phone and explained to her that although I knew her intentions were good, that her helping these migrants would only serve to aid and abet the wider phenomenon of mass migration into Europe, that ultimately less good would be done in the long run. Additionally, I expressed a concern for her safety, if the UN abandoned the last camp, heaven knows what could be in store. I explained my case briefly over the phone and she said that while I was welcome to keep in contact with her about it, she ultimately felt that God was calling her to go to Greece.

Here's where you all come in. I'm going to be writing up a case, a proper argument against her going to Greece (more so for my own sake). I can find plenty of evidence in relation to the migrant crisis. If you can, because my knowledge of Scripture, its interpretation on the matter is not befitting, any and all Scriptural arguments I can use. I trust that this body of believers can be of some assistance. In order to assure you all that I'm not simply shirking my work onto others, I will be pursuing the line of inquiry into Old Testament Law, how the Israelites were to let people pass through, but also how they looked out for their own tribal safety and security in accordance with Old Testament Law. And of course any and all prayers you could offer.

Thanks and God Bless.

The tribal isolationism of Israel in the Old Testament is a prefiguration of the isolationism of the Church in the New Testament and today (most notably in how those who are not in communion cannot receive the sacraments). Hardly relevant to the issue you're talking about.

Why are Baptists going to a 95% Orthodox country to do ministry? Is the Orthodox Church not doing anything about those guys there? If so, there has to be a reason.

My old Baptist Church is starting to get into mission work with migrants more and more. Last year they sent the lead pastor and a volunteer to Greece and Italy to work there and learn more. I can't speak for the Orthodox Church and their actions, though if they're taking a hands off approach I presume it must be for a good reason.

its the cathodox aren't christian meme.

The pastor doesn't think especially fondly of the Church, and evangelicals as a whole just choose to ignore the Catholic/Orthodox Churches.

If the Orthodox Church is doing nothing about these migrants, it must have its reasons. Look into it.

If the Church is doing something and your mother is going there to give them a hand, let them do their work in peace.

If the Church is not doing anything and your mother is going but not to ask them to join the Baptists in taking care of the migrants, or to go make trouble in a situation where the Church chose to take a hands-off approach on purpose, then she is sowing the seeds of schism and disunity.

I will take that under advisement. Thank you.

I do recognize that it is her decision. I'm not foolish enough to think that I can convince her otherwise if her mind is made up. They won't be working with any governmental or NGO groups known for funneling people into Europe. It's solely an IMB effort as I recall.

c1384a  No.772525

The IMB isn't enabling the displacement of Europeans dummy, they're providing immediate needs for people at that place while also bringing the gospel (if you're reporting it correctly)

The border question is totally unrelated to the SBCs involvement

0844df  No.772542

This is more a question of common sense than religion.

Just think about it. No one come from Syria running away to Europe fleeing from war.

They are just tiggers leaving their shithole countries to live a better life in Europe exploiting this crisis to get here illegally and get all the government gibs.

It would be the same if I sneaked into Norway of other country just to live of their welfare.

This isn't fair for the Norwegians for example.

Would your mom be ok if she worked all day and then some fake homeless bum forced her to give him 50€ euros/day?

Now imagine this countrywide.

If they were really poor refugees suffering it would be good to help them.

This isn't the case.

They pay hundred of euros (that means they are middle class in their country, the poor can't immigrate) to the human traffickers just to get to Europe and then God knows what happens to children and woman.

By supporting those Masonic NGO's agenda you mother is actually supporting human trafficking when risking her life foolishly because she might be hurt or worse by those migrants.

>they're providing immediate needs for people at that place while also bringing the gospel

How are they building churches and schools to teach them Christianity or are they just helping them to get into a foreign country while saying the "just say you believe Jesus and you go to heaven and ignore everything He said that doesn't fit our "theology" meme?

They're not helping anyone trespass, and the OP wasn't objecting to a soteriological disagreement. Calm down.

Why not just save the money for the plane ticket and instead preach the word in her hometown? But I guess that won't give her the same bragging rights.

OP here.

After some time to think I decided to rescind the construction of a proper case. I realized that It wouldn't matter what I said, my mother will still go, whether or not God has actually called her to go. I called her to tell her I still think she shouldn't go, but recognized it was her decision to make. She was very gracious about it, and specifically requested me to send information about the current state of affairs in Greece. Please pray for her safety nevertheless.

Thanks all.
