The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

Here we can discuss historical questions and events throughout christendom and church history.

I'll start: Why do you thi nk God allowed tradional christian uprisings to fail? such as carlism, jacobitism, the shimabara rebellion (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shimabara_Rebellion) or the vendee uprising? (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_in_the_Vend%C3%A9e)

You bring up the Vendee, but forget that the monarchy was restored for most of the first half of the 19th century. The reason any of it happened is for our sins and unbelief, which were far deeper poison. Remember the prophet Samuel said that if a king falls off the path, the people will be destroyed with him. The French monarchy was a classic example of the kind of spiritual deafness and blindness which was certainly instrumental to the ability of the Republicans to inspire something like allegiance.

If they were good monarchs, they wouldn't have been punished so seriously.

Also Henry VIII's usurpation of the Church and the Jacobite rebellion is a sadder tale. The few who did not quietly submit to the anti-Christian reforms were promptly expelled or killed off. However, the Catholic attempts to regain control were equally marred by ham-fisted repressions and unbelief, or I should say, belief, but merely as a matter of politics.

Overall, I would say belief (but only as a matter of politics) is the most subversive element of politics itself. It is total darkness; a worldly army mistaken about whom it is really serving. For these sins, Europe was destroyed.

I don't think God wants the Gospel to spread through wars like that (even if there is clearly an aggressor and the church is the good guy, this is not the right way). In fact, Japan has now proposed that some of these areas become World Heritage sites. At least officially, they feel the shame of the persecution done to Christians. Even though it took much longer, suffering is a lot more effective to get people to see the truth of things. The same happened in the Roman empire as well. I'm not a Catholic, but Aquinas also rightly pointed out this difference in his treatise against Islam. That we didn't spread our message through war and fear like they did.. but by poor men simply preaching Christ. At least I think it was Aquinas? Tbh, I can't find the exact quote now.

For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.

Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?

For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.

For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom: But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness; But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.

Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:

But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;

And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are:

That no flesh should glory in his presence.

But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.

And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God.

For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.

Yeah, you're right..the Bourbons accepted and embraced the enlightnement, refused to consecrate France to the immaculate heart, and even brought their degeneracy to Spain…They brought it upon themselves

.>>768648

You know what..i watched an class on youtube on the subject and there are lot of similarities between the roman empire and Japan, church history-wise. The persecution was brutal, yet some families remained catholic for centuries..Let's all pray that Japan converts!

What do you think God's reason for the Black Plague was and why do you think Poland was more or less spared from it?

>>768725

>the Bourbons accepted and embraced the enlightnement, refused to consecrate France to the immaculate heart, and even brought their degeneracy to Spain

The French aristocracy was headed in that direction anyway. The Revolution was a great tragedy, but don't forget that the aristocrats were building statues of pagan gods just before it began.
