The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

>Most church fathers were millennialists up until Augustine

>The roman and byzantine church split around a thousand years after its conception

>degeneracy has been/is raging rapid in all directions, even among several patriarchs (looking at you Francis and Bartholomew I)

are you saying the millennial reign already happened? i thought that was like the happy ending. do we not get a happy ending?

I'm not a fan of either of Francis or Bartholomew, but degeneracy is a pretty strong word. I know nothing of it pertaining to them (I'm Orthodox btw). Francis and all recent Popes are simply apostates, by their own church's standards (praying with pagans, for example. That kind of thing used to excommunicate Catholics, no? What's the excommunication that happens "automatically"? There's some fancy Latin phrase for it.. and I could have sworn this qualified). As for Bartholomew, he's not degenerate. He's an ecumenist. It's bad on it's own, but I tend to reserve "degeneracy" for gay sex parties… or something.

Also, church life wasn't all that rosy post-Augustine. Every orthodox doctrine we cherish now was won by perseverance and sometimes blood. Names we associate with it never got to see the fruits of their teaching. Nicaea didn't happen overnight, but kept getting undermined with mock councils and bishops taking over. The Emperor himself was an Arian at times. St. John Chrysostom died in exile. As did many others.

The hierarchy isn't God's lawyers. They just get elevated to that kind of common perception from a mixture of LARPers, pop "news," hateful tribalism between denominations, and attacks on Christianity as a whole. If you want to hate Rome or especially Francis in particular then just keep in mind that the worst scandals involve a global network (of not just one group) going across several decades. You can't just blame one person and expect erasing him to make the evil go away.

Saying Roman Catholicism is all about the pope is like saying Protestantism is all about the biggest megachurch pastor. It's just a low-effort attack warranting a low-effort reply if any at all.

I see where you're getting here, but there's no comparison. Your Pope (assuming you're Catholic) can make so called "ex cathedra" statements.. and even his encyclicals qualify as "ordinary magisterium"…. right? It's dogma that can last indefinitely.. or take on a more powerful nature. Dogma is a word barely exists in those megachurches…if at all. They're like chickens with their heads cut off.
