Mark 16:17-
>17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
I went to a charismatic church for a long time. I was essentially forced to speak in tongues to show that I was filled with the spirit. Anyone can do it, just start babbling things that sound like words but aren't and you're golden. I saw many, many sick people have hands laid on them but I never saw any of them recover. I saw many people come up and have preachers try to cast demons out of them, but I never saw them exhibit any sort of change afterwards that showed it has worked. I never saw anyone handling snakes or drinking poison though.
I eventually realized that charismatic churches major on speaking in tongues because anyone can do it so you don't need the Spirit of God to fake it. But you can't fake healing the sick. Either they get healed or they don't.
This brings up a question though. Thye bible says those signs shall follow the preaching of the word to confirm the word that was preached. Since those signs basically never happen, why do we consider the preaching that passes as Christian nowadays to be the word of God? Shouldn't we see the lack of the miraculous as a warning sign that we are in error and then do some deep sould searching to find out where we went wrong?
