This was recently found in a magazine, but it's questionable in its authenticity.

I'm slightly terrified now. I read up on Joseph the Hesychast, Elder Ephraim's mentor… And some of my friends and their families interacted with Elder Ephraim, he's definitely got some spiritual knowledge.

This is slightly disturbing, all in all. Got any more leads on this, or was it just that article?

When is this supposed to have happened? I am a bit skeptical because I know several people who go to Saint Anthony's regularly and it seems like something that would be mentioned, but perhaps it is true. I'm going to ask around.

We have a bunch of Orthodox magazines and media here that their main occupy is promoting fake prophesies (usually appointed to some pure monk who have no idea), bringing the apocalypse and finding out that everyone is a mason or crypto-catholic. Idk if Orthodox Faith is one of those i'm just pointing that out.

Unless I hear a Elder himself say it, it's best to not pay attention. Sad as it is, but there are a lot of dubious rumors around elders. I wish those in the church weren't prone to making things up, but it is what it is.

That's a problem everywhere, but it's usually Greek or Russian nationalism using monks from Athos to give their weird premillenial apocalyptism more "oomph". The closest I've ever heard of an actual monk coming close to any of this is Elder Paisios, when he refused a US delegation/senator or something from meeting at Mt. Athos, and remarked that there'd be "peace in the world, if not for the United States" (this was around the time of the war in Yugoslavia). I can't blame him…. but that's a far cry from "Left Behind: Mt. Athos Edition".
