To what extent should we be a "friend to sinners". A lot of times, in the face of recognizing wrong as wrong, people will often say "but Jesus was a friend of sinners".
He loved us while we were yet sinners, and covers our past, present, and future sins. Yet the scriptures show that we have a walk to walk if we want to be disciples during our salvation.
But who called him a
>For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a devil.
Clearly the accusation was false here.
>The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified of her children.
This as well was false. Jesus never drank the demon juice that he said was not for kings. (Proverbs 31:4, Revelation 1:6). Jesus never pigged out either. So what are we to make of the final accusation that he was a friend of publicans and sinners. Surely he wasn't going to the saloon, looking up skirts, getting drunk, and fornicating. The people that accused him of fornication, accused him as well as being a friend of sinners.
(see john 11 kjv for context)
Furthermore we see several verses about not fellow shipping with those living sinful life styles. (see Matt 18) We are told not even dine with them (see 1 cor 5).
Where do we draw the line between love and compromise?
For example I'm thinking of taking online courses, because I know my generation from where I grew up in. I don't believe myself to be better or holier then thou, but at the same time, I don't want to be around toxic influence. Scripture even tells us to avoid corrupt communication.
