Honestly, Christianity is probably the only religion on earth that actually stands up to reason and values reason. You can tell Mormonism is false because you need to abandon reason to a point and become wilfully ignorant in order to embrace it. Historically it makes no sense and like all Christian heresies, you only need to read your bible to see that what they've taken from it is incorrect.
For some people, though, religion is just rituals and a leap of faith. It doesn't much matter what it is, they are raised in a religion; there's enough true elements to satisfy them. Most of these people, if they were born in India would be Hindu, etc. Some of them probably would have been into astrology if it had found them first. They usually don't read anything critical of Mormonism and live in a echo chamber.
For most people, this is just what religion is. You are told what to think (not how to think) and you think it. It worked for your ancestors and it makes you happy. It is insane to most Christians who have stopped to think about their faith or converted later in life. Because genuine Christianity is something much more radical. It stands up to reason, God gives you wisdom beyond your years and beyond mere human sources, theology isn't just a unique cosmology, it is knowledge of a living triune God (each bit of knowledge valuable for growing in Him).
Sorry for the rant. Not sure if it even makes sense. Just a feeling I have when I see people like this. I have a sister-in-law who criticises Christianity, thinks the God of Christianity doesn't make much sense, and yet she still reads Tarot cards, astrological signs and burns sage. I don't see Mormonism as being any less superstitious honestly.
