U.S. Pastor Buys His Wife A Lamborghini As Pastors In Other Countries Are Beaten And Thrown In Prison

When news came out that Greenville pastor John Gray had given his wife a $200,000 Lamborghini SUV for their eighth anniversary, there was an explosion of outrage

http://endoftheamericandream.com/archives/u-s-pastor-buys-his-wife-a-lamborghini-as-pastors-in-other-countries-are-beaten-and-thrown-in-prison

In an Instagram video taken at the celebration, Gray leads his wife to a bow-wrapped car and hands her the keys while saying "Lamborghini Urus." Gray, who leads Relentless Church in Greenville, acknowledged on social media that he bought his wife a car for their anniversary and responded to criticism of the purchase. "It's people who say preachers make too much money and they shouldn't have this or that," Gray said in the interview last year. "I understand why and how people get there, but I think they should be very cautious to understand that if the individuals that are serving are honorable, and they are committed to serving, if they have saved their money and want to do something nice for their spouse, or they want to live in a home, you've got one life." But ultimately most people aren't even going to pay attention to the source of the money. All they are going to care about is the fact that a megachurch pastor just purchased a $200,000 Lamborghini for his wife, and many will use it as yet another excuse to shut God out of their lives.

And the contrast to what is going on in much of the rest of the world is startling. For example, an Indian minister that pastors a church in Bihar state says that he is going to keep preaching the gospel despite being severely beaten recently. An Indian pastor who was severely beaten alongside members of his congregation earlier this month in Bihar state has vowed to continue preaching the Gospel just like the heroic figures of the Bible did. "I am prepared to pay the price for serving my God," said Pastor Bangali Das in an interview with International Christian Concern while wrapped in bandages and breathing heavily due to injuries he sustained during the attack. Elsewhere in India, a violent mob recently stormed a church service in Kanpur and brutally beat up everyone attending. On December 2, the protestors forced themselves into the private hall, threatening Christian worshippers and disrupting Pastor A. B. Singh's morning service. When people see that you have something worth dying for, that will inspire them to look into your faith for themselves. People want meaning and purpose in their lives, and those that are willing to endure immense persecution while serving Christ are a shining example of what the world so desperately needs right now. In this day and age, you have to be so careful. In the social media age, your entire career can be defined by a single act, and at this point most people will remember John Gray for the $200,000 Lamborghini.

Congregations get the pastors they deserve.

Now I know why Martin Luther decided to break away with the church. That's a hell of a car, while the pope's car is a winnie the pooh Fiat. Lol papists are so poor.

>there was an explosion of outrage

yeah? where? In the journalist's imagination?

>implying social media matters

Meanwhile, India is becoming less and less tolerant of the gospel. But this has been going on for more than twenty years:

I wonder whether the daughter still retains this level of faith:

I decided to look this guy up - in the middle of reading the lesson, he starts speaking in tongues or something? Could it be Hebrew with really bad inflection? I looked it up and it doesn't seem to fit, what is this? https://biblehub.com/interlinear/ezekiel/37-6.htm

I have serious concerns about this guy. His homelitic method is haphazard - for example, he correlates Ezekiel 37:6 w/ Is 55:11. Rhema!=Pneuma, that's not a parallel passage. He mentions the soverignty of God, then in the next sentence, mentions that we are "little gods." A lot of his emphasis is on church growth and physical benefits of faith - miraculous healings and such. Some things were positive, the idea that the Bible begins with life, leads to death, and returns to life. His Christology is a little off, he mentions that Christ could not have given the power to forgive sins before resurrection. There were also a few odd drum/cymbol interludes with emotive stuff, maybe some people like that.

If you're gonna preach on Ez 37, you must, must mention the Babylonian captivity, and he didn't. I have concerns about his ecclesiology too, if his mother is driving 7 hours to attend his Church, well, that's a bit odd, isn't it? Shouldn't she be attached to a local church?

I've never correlated Is 53:5 with physical healing but I guess it's a possible secondary application? I dunno, with exegesis you should be able to talk to the whole congregation at once, not segements - those in physical or emotional trouble.

Yeah, the guy seems pretty theologically shallow by what you've said.

>I've never correlated Is 53:5 with physical healing but I guess it's a possible secondary application?

No.

Never.

It's "By His wounds we are healed" … from sin.

He doesn't grant healing – and, to be sure, He healed many in His day, and, I believe, still does – by the power of the Cross ("by His wounds") but by the power of who He is: God.

Ez 37:6 is about God "resurrecting" the hopes of the nation of Israel

< The Lord said to Ezekiel these bones are the people of Israel

… but I will also contend it is a foreshadowing of His raising up a new nation of Israel, that is, "while we were still sinners, Christ died for us" in part because:

< I will put my Spirit in you and you will live

(That could just be "breath" since spirit and breath are the same Hebrew (root?) word, I seem to recall.)

Nevertheless, raising the dry bones has literally NOTHING to do with healing, but I will suggest it does have a thematic link to Isaiah 55:11 imho.

Not sure if that was his angle. But, if he's turning that into a story about healing … eeesh … just no.

Thanks for your posts, anon

Many would have entered into sectarian sh*tflinging or just empty insults in general once this guy became a target

Who cares? Kudos to the pastor for:

1:working hard to actually have enough money to buy it in the first place

2: treating his wife well on their 8th anniversary
