Whether it's … oh, you said /christian/ … yeah, probably …
It is a massively based film, regardless. And I love its Christianness.

>curse be the ground … for our sake
>both thorns and thistles it shall bring forth … for us
>for out of the ground we were taken for the dust we are
>and to the dust we shall return
vs (let's go with NKJV)
>"Cursed is the ground for your sake;
>In toil you shall eat of it
>All the days of your life.
>Both thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you,
>And you shall eat the herb of the field.
>In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread
>Till you return to the ground,
>For out of it you were taken;
>For dust you are,
>And to dust you shall return."
It's not exactly a direct quote of Genesis 3, but I was quite surprised to find what I thought were scripted embellishments -- the "for your sake" and "for you" – are actually in the text. See, the way he speaks them implies they are for our benefit, not the plain-reading "this is your punishment"
And, I GUARANTEE the way he speaks them are Denzel's embellishments. Heck, the scripture chosen might even be his choice. Video Related -- he says "the spiritual aspect" was his reason for doing the film, and for refashioning it to emphasise that. I've watched over the years how he is slowly tossing in his faith into the films he does. He's made more than enough bank for himself that he never needs to work again, so he can pick only films he can see "the light" in – and I count Equalizer in that – and made enough for Hollywood that he's trusted enough that he has more clout over lines and how things are said.
This also emphasises just how much input Denzel had into the script, such as changing Carnegie's (Gary Oldman) ending: http://archive.is/xJ4S and http://archive.is/KFBPh
I think the scriptwriter just chose those lines in a Tarantino-ish "yeah, this'll be bad-ass" and Denzel turned them into scripture again.
Either way, you're right, the bar scene is pretty bad-ass.
