Hundreds of allegations in independent fundamentalist Baptist churches across USA…
"I see a culture where pastoral authority is taken to a level that's beyond what the Scripture teaches,''
http://archive.today/2018.12.10-204304/https://www.miamiherald.com/news/nation-world/national/article222576310.html
Joy Evans Ryder was 15 years old when she says her church youth director pinned her to his office floor and raped her. “It’s OK. It’s OK,” he told her. “You don’t have to be afraid of anything.” He straddled her with his knees, and she looked off into the corner, crying and thinking, “This isn’t how my mom said it was supposed to be.” The youth director, Dave Hyles, was the son of the charismatic pastor of First Baptist Church of Hammond, Indiana, considered at the time the flagship for thousands of loosely affiliated independent fundamental Baptist churches and universities. At least three other teen girls would accuse Hyles of sexual misconduct, but he never faced charges or even sat for a police interview related to the accusations.
For decades, women and children have faced rampant sexual abuse while worshiping at independent fundamental Baptist churches around the country. ``It's a philosophy - it's flawed, said Stacey Shiflett, an independent fundamental Baptist pastor in Dundalk, Maryland. The Star-Telegram discovered at least 412 allegations of sexual misconduct in 187 independent fundamental Baptist churches and their affiliated institutions, spanning 40 states and Canada. A music minister molested a 15-year-old girl in North Carolina and moved to another church in Florida. Another girl's parents stood in front of their Connecticut congregation to acknowledge their daughter's ``sin after she was abused by her youth pastor, beginning at 16. To understand how this systemic, widespread abuse could happen again and again, some former members say it is necessary to understand the cult-like power of many independent fundamental Baptist churches and the constant pressure not to question pastors - or ever leave the church.''

First impressions from skimming over their map:
<40% statutory situations
<60% actual pedophilia and rape
<about 15% homosexual
>“Dave, I thought he was a God,”
>“I thought if I got pregnant by Dave Hyles, it would be like having God’s baby.”
This is probably a common theme in that 40%. Overall you can source it to Baptist clericalism. For what it's worth Steven Anderson in the "new" IFB has preached that you should never let your children out of your sight and to not just trust people you met at church.

Well, no shit.
This is what I have been saying is the case and the core reason why cathbro priests have been guilty of so much of this shit, too.
So, little wonder IFB churches – whose pastors are demi-gods, authority-wise – have a problem, too.
See, this is what church discipline is meant to be all about. 'Cuz I cannot believe she is the only victim. Rapists think of rape like Duff Beers – you can never stop at one. Or that other IFB's don't have a more widespread issue than one victim.
So, where are the elders in all this? Too scared to divide the congregation (or simply losing their positions) by taking on "the big man" and his raping son.

That's a good rule in general. For what its worth, I've observed the children of pastors to be unusually vile people. You almost have to have your guard up twice as much around certain types of "church people".

>children of pastors to be unusually vile people
Mmm, I think it depends on the tradition. But also on the quality of the man who is the pastor. If he's not raising his kids properly …
I think if people are all deferential to the pastor, their kids will cop the crumbs of that, and no kid can grow up being told every fart they produce is "God's goodness" and not turn into an undisciplined shit. Fathers should bring them into line, but if dad's too busy building his business congregation, vile and unprincipled poohs will result. Look at the constant stream of pooh being reported in the Korean press about children of chaebol owners (essentially the modern princes), like that woman who wanted the plane to turn around, dagnammit, because she couldn't get her macadamia nuts on a plate. Did they know who she was? Did they want to keep their jobs? etc …
Phew! say the Cathbros, pastors kids are at least this is ONE problem we won't have.
Power corrupts. And in kids, it produces monsters. So concludes my argument against monarchical systems of government, mister speaker.

As much as things like this sicken me, I am not surprised when it happens. And I also don't understand how these things are so readily used against us (Christians in general) as examples of hypocrisy when it is atheists who insist that humans are not in need of a saviour. We told you humans were fallen. Our churches are made up of these fallen people.
The problem with these instances in IFB churches is a lot of them, with their insistence on personal holiness, aren't recognising the two-way street. Gravely sinful priests are a danger, but they can still deliver valid sacraments. Gravely sinful pastors should be done. They have no more authority.
>>739540
I don't think it is the conspiracy you may think. Sure, some of it has to do with the Catholic church's power (historically and contemporaneously). But I think the Catholic church's unity is what makes it uniquely easy to attack. Yeah, there are all these abuse cases in IFB churches, but if you are IFB, you can just say "it didn't happen in my church." Catholics are forced to answer for what happens in the worldwide Catholic church.

>Yet this is the absurd and impossible doctrine of the Roman Catholics, holding that the "bread" and "wine" were literally changed into the "body and blood" of our Lord. The language employed by the Saviour was in accordance with a common mode of speaking among the Jews, and exactly similar to that used by Moses at the institution of the Passover Exodus 12:11; "It" - that is, the lamb - "is the Lord's Passover." That is, the lamb and the feast "represent" the Lord's "passing over" the houses of the Israelites. It serves to remind you of it. It surely cannot be meant that that lamb was the literal "passing over" their houses - a palpable absurdity - but that it represented it. So Paul and Luke say of the bread, "This is my body broken for you: this do in remembrance of me."
