The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

>tfw too dumb to understand Paul’s epistles

Seriously I’ve read them all three times and they just go right over my head. Any good commentaries or anything?

The "Read Scripture" videos on Youtube give a good overview of them, although of course it ends up being very shallow and doesn't compensate for not reading the epistles themselves. But maybe it'll help guide you.

I used to have the same problem. Unfortunately, there isn't any real advice I can offer. One day it just clicked for me.

First, you need to be Saved to understand the things of God.

If you are, but still aren't understanding everything, don't fret. The Bible is a deep book, meant to be read for a lifetime. If you understood everything perfectly the first time through, reading would get boring pretty quick. Just be consistently reading and little by little you will understand more.

23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

24 He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me.

25 These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you.

26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

- John 14:23-26

You can always ask the Lord to enlighten your understanding, friend. And if you haven't already, then surrender yourself to Jesus, and be filled with the Holy Spirit.

Don't feel discouraged, even Simon Peter described Paul's epistles as containing "some things hard to be understood." Take a break from his stuff, read some other books from the Old and New Testaments, and you'll understand his writings better when you return.

>Disregard Paul

>Have to disregard Luke too because he was an assistant of Paul

>Have to disregard Peter because he says to follow Paul

>Have to disregard John because he established Peter as leader of the apostles

>Have to disregard Mark because he was an assistant of Peter

>Have to disregard Jude because his epistle is just a paraphrase of part of Peters

So is your scripture Old Testament+book of James?

Imagine if the proddies got rid of the NT books too except for James. They would believe in faith + works.

Man, now I’m trying to imagine a religion that believes only in the Old Testament+James.

They’d probably be majority Jewish, as the great commission would be rejected. They’d also follow the law of Moses as opposed to the moral law of Christianity. There’s be no eucharist or baptism in this religion, as that’s not in the Old Testament or James.

They’d probably have some traditions about Jesus outside scripture, but at that point we’re so far removed I don’t think we’d be able to guess what they would be.

“Faith” would refer to faith in the God of Israel, rather than faith in the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ.

They’d probably have some Arian-tier (or even Muslim-tier) view of Jesus, given their huge lack of scriptural Christology.

Just accept Paul lmao
