Tyndale, Coverdale, Matthew Bible, the Great Bible, and the DR say: Earth was void and empty, and darkness was upon the face of the deep; and the spirit of God moved over the waters.
The ASV and Young's Literal translation also say "waste and void".
The translation of "without form and void" began with the Geneva Bible.
Brenton's Septuagint
But the earth was unsightly and unfurnished, and darkness was over the deep, and the Spirit of God moved over the water.
Terra autem erat inanis et vacua, et tenebræ erant super faciem abyssi: et spiritus Dei ferebatur super aquas.
Wycliffe
Forsooth the earth was idle and void, and darknesses were on the face of (the) depth; and the Spirit of the Lord was borne on the waters.
